Default Are we ever going to see 2 way reconciliation with GMAIL?

Please Login to Remove!

I know this has been discussed in many threads but i have not seen if anyone knows this is something google is working on. I've just switched from yahoo to gmail and seriously thinking of going back for this one issue. I'm liking gmail but don't understand after all this time why they haven't implemented it.

What if anything, are people hearing?

I've posted a suggestion on the google mobile idea site.... please vote for it!!

Thanks,
Eric

I had my Gmail account set up as a IMAP server with my email client before and it synced both ways perfectly. Are you wanting it to do this with your BlackBerry?

yes, with the blackberry - just like with yahoo. if i delete an email on either the bb or gmail it should show instantly on the other place. also read status should be updated both directions as well.

I've tried both. I can delete on the blackberry and it deletes gmail pretty fast. deleting on gmail never deletes on the bb. something marked as read on either is never reconciled with the other.

Oh ok! Yeah you're right. I had it running with IMAP when I was using BlackBerry Connect on my Nokia, but IMAP is slow as the servers only get surneyd every 15 minutes or so. At least that's the way it was then and it might also be a country thing. Is it faster now?

If you use IMAP, read status and deletes will sync from bb to gmail instantly (right after you hit 'back' from the messages screen).
As far as I know, no one has been successful in getting read status and deletes to sync from gmail to bb.
In addition, receiving emails on the bb with IMAP (with a few rare exceptional cases) will be delayed up to 15 minutes. POP will always be instantaneous, but you don't get anything but receiving emails and deletes from bb to gmail.

Oh, and to answer your original post... I highly doubt we'll see any improvement in the foreseeable future. If it hasn't been fixed until now, I don't know what could possibly lead anyone to believe that they (be RIM or Google) actually care enough to fix it.

Gmail will sync back to the BB (mine does), but it takes a long time. It can take two hours, but eventually it syncs.

I think the trick here is to set up gmail manually for imap in BIS. If you let it go through the automatic setup, you don't get the read sync'd only new mail and deletes.

I think it differs from network to network, or at least from country to country, but what I found is that if you don't put in the right details it eventually takes you to the manual setup screen. Last time I did it on Vodacom (South Africa) anyway...

Just remember that IMAP is not instantaneous.

going to my bis page, i found an unchecked box for synchronize deleted items. i guess i'll live with the unread messages if this works, since i prefer the instant notification. would still like to see google/rim fix this.

Does anyone of you using Gmail get your sent items (that you send from the website) sent back to your BlackBerry?

No as this would be part of the flawed GMail to BB sync.

Strange. Coz this is what is happening to me.

I have to set up a filter on the bb website to filter that out. What else can I do?

The filter is the solution.
