Default Javelin Performance

Please Login to Remove!

Hi folks

After finding out my Pearl Flip has a 312MHz processor in it, i kind of deflated rather quickly considering my Bold has the same processor at twice the speed!

Anywho back to the point, how are you guys finding your Javelin's performance? Cos i'm kinda torn between getting one of these or splashing out on an iPhone 3G as i'm looking to replace my Pearl Flip soon...

Also if any Javelin users have either owned or used a Bold or Flip then your input will be greatly appreciated

honestly, its slower then the bold, but not by much... edge is fast on it, so not having 3g is ok with me, but some like it for the ability to do data and voice at the same time...

i think its one of the best devices on the market right now... the extra memory in the device helps with speed as well, compared to the bold it has alot more and helps with having alot of applications open at once... i always have at least 8 apps open on top of all the standards ones that are open like messages, browser etc, and it never once has slowed down on me... barely any hour glasses at all...

I expected it to be slower then my Bold, but it actually seems just as fast or faster. The RAM more then makes up for the 512/624mhz processor difference.

The best example for me is the video camera application... If I start it on the Bold its quick and responsiv. On the Javelin starting takes like 2 seconds. Recording is awful because if you click to start a recording it takes an other 13 seconds to get really started with the recording...

13 seconds? Really? Not on my 8900. Just tried and it took roughly 2 seconds to start the application (like you said), and then about 1 second from the time I hit record to the time the light started blinking to show that the device was actually recording. No significant issues here, so maybe something running amuck on your phone?

I noticed that it was a little slow to start recording video but only a couple of seconds and not anywhere near 13 seconds. Is it doing it each time you try to record a video? What happens if you do a battery pull and then try to record video?

also guys remember the camera is different on the 8900 then the bold and any other BB... its bigger, and has auto focus, so having the auto focus i'm sure is slowing it down by a few seconds

mhmm.... i tested again. after pulling the battery trying something out. If I use the 4GB SD card normal one not ultra insteed of the 8GB Ultra one it takes only 7 - 9 seconds to start recording. on the 8gb card it allways takes like 12 - 15 seconds...

How quick is it to be ready to take a photo from pressing the side convenience key?

I have an 8 GB SanDisk card in my 8900, and it takes no longer than 2 seconds to get going. Something else odd with your phone or the memory card you are using.

I'm pretty sure that anybody using an old memory card should format it before using it with any of the new BB OS. It's been know to completely screw up Pearls updated to 4.5 OS.
