There are far too many things for the internet.

.net, .com, .org, .gov, .edu, .mobi, .it, .tv, - There are a lot. Just having a .com is pointless, in my opinion.

Folks, ya got a QWERTY keyboard there. Just type it out! In some fields the space bar puts the "." in, and then it's up to you to struggle through typing "c o m".

I think Opera Mini do this job very well. It automaticly adds .com when you entered a dot (or another ending depending to your area).
This feature should be in Broweser too

Why not the.com? it seems to keep a dictionary of other frequently used letter combinations.

I think the best place would be in a possible alternate symbol page.

The iPhone has this benefit because they have the electronic keyboard.

Blackberry could do this with a symbol page that was customized to a URL field - since a number of those characters aren't legal in a URL they don't have to be visible when editing a url or email text field.
