Correct, often the loader backup is deleted upon completion.

Always make an independent backup first.

So, for my last act, I'm guessing I can't backup a Blackberry that's NOW got the 507 error code? Lol! I think I've really done a number on it.

I thought you had error 205.

Error 507 is no OS detected. You won't be able to back it up from there.

Before you do anything else, run a search on your entire c: drive for *.ipd and see if you find the most recent backup file.

Yeah. I did have 205. And then suddenly, 507. I'm pretty sure I've completely destroyed this thing. I've searched and found no *.ipd files. Very sad. I've now reinstalled the DM, and I'm going to reinstall the OS, and see if it'll go. If not, I guess I'm gonna try the jl_Commander route unless anyone has a better suggestion. Thanks for the help so far guys.

If you have a 507, there is no need for a wipe as the device is already wiped. Just use Loader.exe to reload the OS.

There should be an .ipd file unless you specifically told the loader.exe to NOT make a backup. it's set to backup and restore by default.

Also, the process never deletes an automatic backup .ipd file. The only thing that should be lost is any 3rd party apps.

Many of these updates may not have anything noticeable. RIM partners with MANY different companies that develop software for the BB. It's possible that these builds have bug fixes to help with RIM Partner's applications. It's usually best to upgrade to the latest you can find.

John Clark, thanks for the reply. I'm hoping for the best, but prepared for the worst. I did just what you said, and his time, it seems to be in the process of loading. We'll see what happens. Hopefully my data is there, but if it's not, I'll live with it. I'll let you know how it goes. Thank you.

I always do a regular backup before I update. Both in Windows and in Linux

Thanks John. Uploaded yesterday. Originally gave a 507 error. Wiped and reloaded and all is good. Couple more megs of memory and no issues.

I'm usually much more careful, but I got lazy. Big mistake. So, I'm sitting here watching the hourglass spin? How long is that supposed to go on?

If you are on the "waiting for device to initialize" step...about 20 mins.

Hey my friends. I have another question (imagine that!?!) This might be a noob question, but how come this particular upgrade has to be installed through the loader, instead of the DM. I couldn't for the life of me get DM to pick it up. It that some sort of copyright, or protection deal to try and stop us from upgrading with other carriers OS'? Thanks again for the help, and kind words! ;)

I used DM 4.6 and it worked just fine.
