Default Server side spam filtering

Can anyone recommend any solutions for server side spam filtering with BES 4 and Exchange 2003?

Most of our users are running client side which obvisously does not work with BES.

We are using a MXtreme on the border between Exchange and the Internet, but that still allows some spam thru.

We are using an appliance product called Ironport. (ironport dot com) that works very well and easy to configure.

I know this is a bit pricey, but the Barracuda appliance is very good as well.

An easy (& free!) way, if you know the addresses that these messages are coming from, is to set up global filters on your BES

SurfControl works great. It filters junk mail in the tens of thousands every day and also acts as the first line of our anti-virus defense.

I second the Barracuda. We had Surfcontrol and bought 2 Barracuda 300s. With updates and 24hr replacement they cost us less than the annual maint. renewal for Surfcontrol. It also moved spam filtering off of the mailbox server and onto the appliances. With the outbound mode available in 3.3 my mailbox server has been completely isolated from the internet.

We have the brightmail antispam (now symantec) running on our smtp server in the dmz zone. Its works incredible and is nearly maintenance free.
