Who knows? I don't carry the insurance on my phone. I'm a gambling man and like to think I won't ever have issues like you're experiencing. Plus, VZW has some weird Terms & Conditions as far as I'm concerned. Every person I know who did get a replacement phone (doesn't matter if it's BB or another) have to also pay a $50 replacement fee. It can't hurt to try going into the store...If they don't do it, Im sure you could get your own replacement ball/housing unit through an e-tailer. Ive only shopped at crackberry.com for a spare docking station and battery. They have a lot of stuff!

Wirelessly posted (Verizon 8830)

Insurance is a separate company and is very useful. I would still try the warranty angle. You have nothing to lose.

Option 3: check out horizonwireless.com

Default track ball issue

Call sprint, I had an issue with the sliding battery panel and they replaced the phone. I have been to the sprint stores in the past and they still tell you to call the 800 number.
yes I have the insurance.

Insurance should cover you for a replacement-there will likely be a deductable, but it will be less expensive that buying a replacement unit outright.

If there isn't any dmage to the trackball housing on the phone itself, you can also buy a replacement trackball and install it your self, which is where the link to Horizon Wireless that was posted previously will come in handy.
