Be cautious:

"Google can only synchronize the following fields with your Google Contacts: Title, First, Last, Email, Work, Home, Mobile, Pager, Fax, Other, Work Address, Home Address, and Notes. All other fields will not be synchronized."

That means no "User 1" from Outlook (PIN field). A few others will be ignored too. Just keep an eye on it, making sure you have a good backup of everything before you start.

I have also noticed that some of the labelling of email addresses doesn't quite agree with the Outlook mapping (work becomes other, home becomes work, etc.)

Meanwhile I am experimenting the sync from BB to Mac Address Book, and BB to Google contacts. Three way seems to be generally OK.

It's promising. Let's see how it develops.

I have had several failed attempts, but it seemed that all my contacts made its way to Google. I haven't tested the Google to BB scenario yet....my calendar does not work at all. Haven't figured that out yet. I am sure there will be bugs to work out, but all in all this is a great step forward for BIS users.

At one point in the past few months I synced my BB with Outlook and then imported my Gmail contacts into Outlook, cleaned everything up, re-synced, and then exported Outlook to Gmail. Last night, prior to installing this version of Google Sync I backed up my BB, exported my Gmail contacts, then deleted all my Gmail contacts, and updated Google Sync. This morning everything looks good on both ends, including contacts with multiple email addresses, multiple physical addresses, company name (which isn't supposed to sync). However, I have made no edits on either end so far, so my results may vary once I start doing so.

Been using google calendar sync since it came out. Upgraded yesterday and it was flawless for me. Although I didn't check to see that every contact was correct. As badabing79 and a few others mentioned, good idea to backup to a file first.

It's too slow to be useable.

It eventually did OK, not great. It duplicated some entries, and did some other weird stuff. After the first manual sync it does it automatically every couple of hours (you can set frequency).

I cleaned up the doubles and some of the weirdness, we shall see how the auto syncs react to that. Will they sync the clean ups, or undo them?

By the way, I assume this requires a full data plan? My wife is on the T-Mobile BB E-mail only, so I guess she can't use this?

Now it's failing. Guess we will have to wait for another version.

Best,
Jaime

I got duplicated addresses to Google - after every sync, the address gets added again (for some contacts, not all). There are several reports of phone numbers being deleted on the BB side. The application also causes instability with the phone log (sometimes when you open it, it crashes the blackberry).

While I was not able to find corrupted BB phone numbers in the few contacts I spot checked, I wasn't about to check all 177. So I decided to delete the sync app, and restore my addreses from Outlook using the BB desktop software.

Once the bugs are out, I'll reinstall the sync program. And it will be the last piece that enables me to completely cut the cord from MS Outlook. Between Gmail, Gcalendar RememberTheMilk, and my BB 8320, I will have no more need for MS Outlook. Gmail's contact management piece has gotten to be good enough after some changes in the last few months (mainly the distinction between My Contacts, Most Contacted, and Suggested Contacts). All that is needed is a reliable contact sync.

I've uninstalled it. I didn't like the automatic syncing, and noticed that if it set it to manual sync but rebooted by device for any reason, that it would revert back to automatic again.

Will try again with the next update.

I unfortunately did not take a backup of my device prior to installing and testing. I only installed this as a test, I use Yahoo and sync via DM, which when I went to sync today I was prompted to delete about 50 of my contacts. So I immediately uninstalled Google Sync and did a 1 way Sync from Yahoo back to my BB incase any of those were altered in any way.

Once the bugs are worked out, I'll jump back in for testing. Still this is major major progress for Google. If only MSN/Hotmail and Yahoo had a way to wirelessly sync, they would probably gain some market share in the BB world. Ok no dissertations.

I grabbed this update as soon as I saw it posted. It has worked great for me... although I noticed that a few contacts were missing telephone numbers. By chance, I figured out that these contacts happened to have speed dial associated to them. As soon as I removed speed dial and ran another sync, it updated the contacts properly. Other than that... it does what I have always wanted it to do... and I'm sure it can only get better.

Well... I need to retract this statement. Sure enough, the phone numbers disappeared again.

What do you use to sync you rtasks with RTM ? You are using the paid RTM version?

I had to roll back this update as well. The contact sync at first duplicated addresses or removed phone numbers (this was from a clean sync with everything on my Blackberry erased).... Even after finally getting the sync squared away address fields were in the wrong place and it places a major processing burden on the device. ADDITIONALLY you can no longer search the address book by first name.

NOT ready for prime time.

This continues to duplicate (triplicate) some of the contacts in my BlackBerry. This is really a horrible implementation. It's also very very slow.

Stay away.

I don't get a full sync, but I do something that's "good enough" for me:

1) Can use BB as input device by sending to the custom email address provided by RTM.

2) Can view things I need to do TODAY, because:
a) I use Gcalendar to subscribe to the Calendar feed from RTM (which unfortunately updates only 1x or 2x per day)
b) I use Gcalendar's daily agenda email feature to send myself an email (sends early AM so I see today's tasks).
c) alternative to (b) is I could use contact sync to subscribe to my RTM calendar on Gmail - and I'd see all my dated tasks. Not doing this yet but will when Google's sync software gets fixed.

The way I do task management, I don't need a list of updated tasks always at my fingertips. Just what is dated today, for the most part. Though it would be nice to see tasks dated for the next few weeks as well - which I'll have when I do 2(c) above.

I have the previous Gsync installed 0.4.6 (calendar only) on my 8703e. When I get my storm is there any way to load my version or am I stuck trying this one??

EDIT: does this version have an option to turn off/on the address book sync?
