Wirelessly posted (Verizon 8830)
Not that I will be one of those people but will we see people sleeping at the stores to get this?

For everything I have been hearing the stores will be fully loaded with these to ensure they can meet the demand.

Who knows if they will sellout in seconds. The question I have, is will they sell you one retail if you cant renew your contract? I want one, however my 2 year contract is not up for a bit. Can I renew it and get phone at 249.99?

I am wondering that too as my contract isn't up until March. I may just get a 3rd line to get this at contract price.

IIRC you can renew up to 6 months before then end of your two year contract and get the w/ contract price. What you won't get is your New-Every-Two discount on top of the contract price.
Call a CS and ask just to be safe.

There is no reason why they wouldn't sell you one. But the soonest you can renew is 4 months prior to your contract end date.
*edit
Also, if your line is the primary line on the account, you'll be eligible for a new every 1 year upgrade, the phone will probably cost around 300-350 (prob not eligible for the 50 MIR). I'm not sure if this extends your contract though.

i just logged in through our company's portal and didn't see anything about a storm.
will it just magically show up at midnight on the 20th?

My question is: if you're a new to Verizon customer can you get it even cheaper online than you can at the Verizon stores (ala the Bold)? I guess we won't get that info from Vzn...

Certainly more reasonable that what ATT is trying to do with the Bold. I hear some people saying they have it down to $199 but the site I see still says $299 after a $100 MIR.

From my experience, if the pricing is different online than in the store, the website usually says "online only" somewhere. As this is a brand new device, and marketed for the casual user, I think the pricing will be the same in retail stores as it is online. I wouldn't count on the price dropping any time soon either. Perhaps when the next BB is realeased from VZW, you might see a price drop.

I know that a few people have been talking about getting another line so that they could get the Storm at the discount price because their NE2 was not up yet, or just get it at retail, but I just called VZW because mine is not up yet either and the CSR changed my NE2 to the 21st when the Storm is available. I was absolutely shocked. That is a reduction of 6 months, and they did it for both my phone and my wife's phone too.
The CSR told me that since I have been a long time customer and that I always pay my bill on time she could do that for me. I also told her that I was going to get the storm and that my wife would be getting one too. Doesn't change my plan, but increases my wife's because she doesn't currently have a BB.
I recommend that anyone that isn't eligible for the NE2 yet, should at least try to see if they can have it changed. I didn't have to argue with them at all, and when I called I was just looking to see what it would cost me and the CSR is the one who told me they would change it. Didn't even have to ask for it.
Hope you guys can get the same deal.

My 8830 died recently so I'm using a new Curve. The 11/20 release date for the Storm is within my 30-day return period, but I already cut off the ESN for the Curve's MIR. Think they'll still let me return my Curve with half the box missing?

I didn't mean you'd get a better deal from Vzn online, I meant from 3rd party online retailers, ie Amazon. I got my pearl for free as a new Tmob customer a couple months after its release. It was still $200 at Tmob stores/online. Then people got it free plus $50 rebate there later. My point is that Vzn is looking for people to switch carriers to them, and offer better deals elsewhere after the release of a phone. I know that me, my wife, and office asst/husband all switched from Vzn to Tmob for the pearl release, we're casual users, and got a lot better deal via Amazon than we could via Tmob store/online.
