Default Unlocking 8100 Pearl AT&T to T-Mobile

Please Login to Remove!

I have a AT&T 8100 and I need to unlock it. I have the unlock code provided from AT&T. In the instruction on In putting a Unlock code it says in step one to put in the SIM Card.
Can any one tell me if I need to put in the AT&T SIM Card or can I put in my new T-Mobile SIM Card
Thanks for your help.
Mark.

if you put in the TMob SIM it should ask for the code and you can enter it then.

OK, I'll try that. I just didn't want to put in the new T-Mobile SIM and corrupt it if I was suppose to put in the AT&T SIM for Unlocking purposes.

sstroud, I guess I should be more specific. I called AT&T and they gave me the unlock code over the phone right then. Later on I put the T-Mobile SIM in. When I turned it on, it didn't ask me to put in any code, but it did take a while for it to boot up. I then followed the instructions you posted a link to.
After restarting the Pearl, it detected the T-Mobile network and all was good.
I try to do as much searching first before I make a post, I just wasn't sure about what SIM I should use.
Because of this forum and all the wealth of information it provides up front, I'm able to take care of 95% of what ever questions or problems I might have.

Clarifying - if you put in another carrier's SIM card into a locked BlackBerry it will not ask you for the unlock code. You *must* use the process outlined on BlackBerry FAQ - BlackBerryFAQ

Yes, that is exactly what happened.
NJBlackberry, just to ask, when I turn on the Pearl, it still flashes the AT&T logo Screen before the OS starts. Is there anyway to remove that? I don't know if it is in the Firmware or stuck somewhere in the OS. I did upgrade the OS to 4.5.0.81 Platform 2.7.0.78.

It's in the firmware and can't be changed.

I use my Pearl quite a bit on international travel. I called ATT customer service and explained the situation and they gave me the unlock code. I unlocked the phone and now when I go overseas I just stop by a local phone kiosk in the arrival airport after clearing customs and buy a prepaid plan SIM and slap it it. I then have a local phone number to use during the visit. When I return to the USA, I throw the ATT SIM back in. My last experience with this was on a trip to Oz 3 weeks ago, I bought a Telstra SIM there at the Sydney airport and it worked like a champ. Since it's company paid travel, I turn in the foreign SIM with my expense report.
