Red face how to silence bold when ringing

Please Login to Remove!

Hiya,m newbie here and this site is great!. I just got a bold and like help with 3 things:
1- how to do a shortcut using the left or right convenience key to silcnce the phone when it rings esp when in meetings, tried the keys and they dun work. any other ways?

2. managed to download my Outlookexpress email into my bold but gave me headaches. had to do it twice and found it erased all my telephone contacts second time when i uploaded the addresses (cos I ticked to replace under the sync box). i had to rebackup my tele contacts again to get both. so how do i go about updating my outlook address book in future if I dun tick the "replace contacts"box in sync and if I dun want to end up erasing my tele ctcs?

In short is there any easy way to load my outlookexpress addressinto bold? Ihave 2 idenitities and 2 separate addresse books. now afraid to load the 2nd identity incase it erases everything that's in my bold -ie my first dientity's addressbook and my tele ctcs.

3. was told that when i add new phone contacts, it only goes to the phone memory. Is there anyway to also copy it to Sim Card like how we do with monile fones?

aprreciate any input! thanks!

Welcome to the madness!

1.) Pressing the Mute button located on the bezel, top left will mute the ringer temporarily.

2.) Not sure.

3.) While in the Address Book, click a contact to view the details, then from the Menu select, 'Copy to SIM Phone Book'.

1. i also find the volume up/down buttons are convenient to silence the phone.. at least i use them when in the holster. if i feel it vibrate, i can reach down and hit the volume button to preempt any tone which would normally follow the vibrate..

2. not entirely sure on this one, i have only really dealt with one address book at a time.. my best guesses/suggestions:
a. copy all addresses into one outlook contact list, then sync that to your BB.
not sure with desktop redirector, but i think you can also muddle with the pim sync settings to perhaps merge your existing bb contacts into outlook, while leaving the existing outlook contacts alone.. so address book A on BB, address book B in outlook, sync from BB to outlook, so outlook now has A+B. then sync all back to BB..
b. if you have just a few, copy the items to sim card one at a time (see above post), restore the second address book, then copy items from sim card to address book (only stores name/phone number on sim i believe)

Best way is the volume keys. They work all the time. Hit is and voila... tone+vibrate gone... :D

Open the contact you want to transfer to the sim card. Roll the cursor down to the phone number for the contact you want to transfer. Then hit the menu key and you'll have the option to copy to sim card. I believe some carriers allow you to send address files via MMS but not SMS.

1. The smart*ss in me says that to silence it, just answer the phone. But when mine rings I get an option on the screen to "Ignore" the call and hit the red "end" phone button.
That shuts it up until I get the "message waiting" tone for voice mail.

The problem with that is, as soon as you press the ignore button the call is routed to VM immediately. If the caller knows anything, they will understand you are at the phone, but just ignored them. I have had people complain that I "ignored" their call. So, silence the call and let it ring the full amount is the only way to go.

D'oh! I didn't know that "ignore" shunted them to vm immediately. I assumed (dangerous, I know) that it allowed the normal ring cycle, but silently, and they got vm like normal.

I thought the same thing, until I got busted by my wife. She gave me a hard time about ignoring her call. Now I know better.

Which is why you hit the volume down button on the side. It silences the phone but it will continue to ring normal duration rather than ignore which sends them directly to voice mail and lettting them know that you have just "given them the finger".

1) volume key is best
2) didn't think it sync'd with express, only full outlook
3) why would you want to save to SIM when you've already got them backed up on the PC...also the SIM contains only name + ph no...on the ph mem you can have loads of details.

Right, that's what was shared in the first few posts. We were just enlightening Rambo to all of the people that know he has ignored them.
