The computers at work don't let me install software. Is there a way to carry the Verizon internet connection software (I think it's Smith-Micro) or some other software on the blackberry itself so that I can connect the computer to my account?

I have the Verizon tether internet package.

No. It's just a regular Verizon Curve. I connect my personal laptop to the internet using the software from Verizon. I'd like to connect my work laptop to the internet, but I can't install any software on my work laptop.

If you can not install anything on the work laptop, then you will not be able to use the BB to tether your work laptop.

Also, if your work laptop is set to not allow software installations, it's advisable that you don't try to circumvent that policy.

The BlackBerry in that scenario, is the IP modem, and cannot host its own connection software. A piece MUST exist on the PC, and since you cannot install software on the PC, what you want to do is not possible given your current environment.

I think this is relevant to the thread... how do I tether my blackberry when I do have admin rights?

That depends on your carrier. First you'd need the driver provided with the Desktop Manager software, included with the BlackBerry. Then you need additional software or a Dial-up Networking connection. AT&T and Verizon for example, have their own software you can install on the PC that will interface with the BlackBerry. In other cases, you may just need to define a Dial-up Networking connection with the proper settings.
