Default So why should I upgrade to OS 4.5?

Please Login to Remove!

I've read through many of the threads here about the OS 4.5 and don't see any discussion of WHY this OS is better (or worse) than previous versions.

I'm running 4.2 on my 8310 - why should I upgrade? What's so great about this new OS?

I know it will enable video recording on my camera as well as allow me to watch YouTube - I don't really care about those features, frankly.

Is there anything else to this new OS?

Thanks!

The two biggest feature enhancements are Documents To Go, and HTML E-Mail Support.

Add in a handful of bug fixes and a dozen or so ancillary feature enhancements and you can probably come up with a few dozen reasons to upgrade to 4.5. Whether these factors make OS 4.5 "better" than previous versions is totally subjective.

All of the new features have been discussed in detail in the threads you supposedly read through already.

One of the best reasons would be the BBAlphaSans font (I don't think it's in 4.2) and the way e-mail's are formatted on the screen better. It's not a fancy new feature, but day in and day out, it makes it so much easier to read, and that's sort of the whole reason I have a BB.

As my ex-GF said, "It's the little things that make me happy."

Wirelessly posted

Is 4.5 final? If so, is it a plug and play download or is it possible to brick it?

Well personally i love the 4.5 os. it does fix a few bugs and the html was a huge deal for me. not to mention youtube and the video camera were little perks. but really for alls those extras and it only takes about an hour to update , and i have yet to see anything wrong with it.......i guess the question should be "Why not?".

+1 for the argument to upgrade. I have upgraded to 4.5 and I like it much better than the previous OS.

Duh, you should upgrade to be cool, of course. You ain't cool...unless you upgrade your OS to 4.5.

Even though I agree that it's a good decision to upgrade, the fact that OS 4.5 decreases the speaker volume (somewhat) dramatically would be a reason (I'd estimate by 25% at least). I'd sure be curious whose brilliant idea it was to lower the volume. Not cool.

What do you mean? Which speaker? The speakerphone or when the phone rings or both?

Both. As far as I can tell, the volume on the headset (i.e., you've got it to your ear) hasn't really decreased. (Though, it's often annoyed me how quiet even that is.)

me too - I did not even notice this either. I will pay closer attention to the volume...
Everything else is fine - even better than before with 4.2...
My volume on regular calls is fine and also with the bluetooth headset.....

I haven't noticed a difference with my call volume either, then again like holden i haven't been listening for it. I will try to listen for it tomorrow and let you know if i see them same decrease, if not brilovett you might want to see if its something just you are experiencing.

If html email is a big factor, I wouldn't necessarily jump to 4.5. I think the 3rd party html apps out there (I use Empower Pro) is so much better than the 4.5 html viewer. I do like the DocsToGo app with 4.5. Other than that, I haven't noticed any other great changes, although I was on 4.3 on an 8330, not an 8310.

much better than 4.2.
-playlists on media player, who needs an ipod if you have a 4GB SD card?
-much clearer display, looks more like an iphone in clarity. largest difference in my mind.
-video and voice recorder.

easy to install and well worth it.

Please start your own topic. It's bad form to hijack someone else's thread.
