Default OS pkg Install question

Hi everyone! I currently do not have internet connectivity to my laptop and am trying to determine if it is possible to follow JC's guide to clean up my 8130. I am finding that I only have between 3 & 4 MB of file free mem and it is killing my functionality. I am with VZW and have the data plan (unlimited) but have not ever attempted tethering. I have DM istalled and backup regularly, but is it vital to install my OS pkg as well? If so, how can I do that w/out internet to my laptop? I have v4.3.0.60. I cannot deal with the battery pulls and soft resets that I seem to have to do MANY times every day. I do have a 2GB mem card installed and everything that can be stored to it is. Please offer any advice possible. My laptop is a Dell Inspiron 5160 and although it is great, I am considering restoring to factory settings and selling if anyone is interested in helping me there or taking it off my hands as well. Thanks in advance for any expertise you provide. I have to go buy hair dye now to cover the little greys that this mem issue has so generously graced me with. LOL thanks again!

Yes, you MUST have the OS installed to the PC. You could download it at an internet cafe and save it to a thumb drive and then install it on your PC, but you do need the OS installed in order to do this process.

In the mean time you can go to Options >Advanced Options >Applications and delete anything you don't need. Start with the Sample Video.

Default OS pkg Install

Thanks John. I will do that. Stupid question...is the OS available for me to DL on my carrier's site and about how large will it be? I want to be sure I have enough space on my drive. Thank you, thank you, thank you!!!

There is a link in the first post to find OS's for every carrier. Your OS should be there unless your carrier has upgraded since your version. They are usually around 80MB or so.

Hey John - I haven't checked this thread in a while, but I now have to resort to an OS load since I have that pesky missed call indicator and RIM and Verizon both went through troubleshooting and both say to reload the OS. Anyhow, I noticed you now have screen shots in your original post, but they show version 4.7 when all I see is 4.5 available for download. Are you keeping secrets?

I have lots of secrets. 4.6 is the latest available for download. Where do they say 4.7? I don't see it.

thanks for instructions john. all good. made a slight mess of themes like you mentioned, but kinda got it sorted.

quick Q, does anyone know at one memory level pearls start deleting things? i mean, is everything kept until free space hits 0, or does is start clearing stuff at like 2 or 5 MB left?

thanks guys!

Alex =)

Sorry if this has been answered..............

So after placing what I don't want in the "Removed Modules" folder do I delete that folder?

Yep, Nick is correct. You want to save it so that you can add them back if you need to.

Default error 523

IMPORTANT!!!
For the Pearl 8130 OS v4.3.0.65 there is a problem with the mms feature.. when you delete the themes, take a look for net_rim_bb_mms.cod and remove that too.. this will allow you to reboot with no errors..

Took me a while to figure that out but I got it..

Yeah, buried in this thread somewhere that's discussed. DON'T delete the setup wizard modules. They are required!
