Isn't it amazing how RIM/BlackBerry has ignored all of those 8830 users who have been complaining about "LOUSY RINGER VOLUME". No effort/no attempt/ no contact from anyone of consequence about "SOMETHING SO VERY BASIC" to a "CELL PHONE'S PERFORMANCE". A cell phone that can be used on noisy job sites; A GLOBAL CELL PHONE used in noisy airports! But these inconsiderate nit-wits offer nothing; not even a "go away and drop dead". They are hoping "IF WE IGNOIRE IT, MAYBE IT WILL GO AWAY". Well, what will and is "GOING AWAY" are people like me. I can assure you, APPLE does not treat it's customers in such a non-caring, inconsiderate, caviler, manner.

Sorry you feel that way. Most people choose a device based on the funtionality that it offers, not on ringtones, but everyone has their own reasons.

You've got to realize, for a lot, maybe even MOST, users of BlackBerry, a phone is not the primary function of the device. It is made to be a mobile e-mail tool, which it is supurb at. I honestly couldn't care less about the loudness of the ringers, and couldn't even tell you the last time my BlackBerry made any sound. I work in an office environment, and have about 20 meetings a week, so it's always on vibrate anyway.

But, you are entitled to your own opinion, and the BlackBerry just isn't right for everyone. I hope you find what you are looking for with your iPhone.

As a user of a Verizon 8830, I have to agree with the OP. It's a known problem and needs a fix. It's an otherwise great device. Even with loud ringers, I still miss calls. My wife has an 8820 and there is no comparison in ring tone volume.

I had the same concerns when I first got an 8830 last year, and there are many ways to work around it. Sure, Verizon and RIM haven't addressed, and that stinks, but there are ways to make the ringer loud.
