Default Skype v2.2 for smartphone

Please Login to Remove!

Hi all, this is my first post

I've been browsing for days all the different fora, but I got nowhere regarding my quest.

I have bought the BB 8300 smartphone a few weeks ago, with unlimited dataplan, and I'm trying to download and install skype (v2.2.0.44 for smartphone) from skype's website. No luck at all.

On the other hand, Google Maps & miniOpera were dl and installed fine.
I have all the latest Desktop & Device Manager installed.

So, if any one of you have already done it, I'd really appreciate some help!

Kosmas

P.S.: I don't want to know about IM or IScot. Just pure skype. Thank you.

There is no blackberry version of skype.
You can try IM+ for skype:
IM+ for Skype :: BlackBerry :: Products. It has some of skype's IM functionality but voice chat is done by calling you back so uses airtime not data & also uses skype credit. See: IM+ for Skype :: BlackBerry :: Products

Well... there is a version of Skype (mentioned above) for smartphones. And BB is a smartphone. So there must be a way...

Skype support is saying that you need to download to your PC the executable, and execute it. But you have to have Active Synch by Microsoft installed and running to do the trick - which I don't. Second scenario is to download the .cab straight to your mobile and execute it. The thing is that the mobile browser refuses to download that .cab file, with an error 413.

ActiveSync and .cab files are only for Windows Mobile devices. That version of Skype is not for use on any Blackberry.

You might want to look at the FAQ page from Skype called "What are the minimum hardware requirements needed to run Skype for Smartphone?"

It reads:
The minimum requirements to run Skype 2.2 for Smartphone are:

xxx9679; OS: Microsoft Windows Mobile Smartphone 2003, Microsoft Windows Mobile Smartphone 2003 Second Edition (SE) or Microsoft Windows Mobile 5.0 Smartphone
xxx9679; Display: 240x320, 320x240
xxx9679; CPU: 195Mhz OMAP or 312Mhz Intel
xxx9679; Network: Wi-Fi, 3G or EDGE

Add another one to iSkoot. I had a friend go to Africa for a while and I used iSkoot to talk to her. It worked great for me. I don't use Skype regularly but it worked great.

Video chatting using the current design of Blackberry phones would be difficult. You would need to keep flipping the phone around to look into the camera and then back again to see the other person.

i didn't say under the current design. i just can't wait until they can do it. maybe put the camera in the corner behind the screen on that touchscreen version due out in the next decade. i don't see it happening anytime soon. just dreaming.
