8700 Battery Life

Allright, so I'm using the 8700g with the Vodafone theme...here's the scoop: I had a full 100% battery charge as of 8am this morning, I made 2 phonecalls and talked for maybe 10 minutes, chesked 2 e-mails, no web use, then i checked my STATUS option and I was down to 90% battery life, is this normal? I know on my 7230 I could browse the web for an hour, talk for 1 hour and write and send oodles of e-mails and I would still have 70-80% battery life. SOS!

Do you have Bluetooth enabled on the BlackBerry? Bluetooth drastically reduces battery life. Even accounting for that, your battery life, or lack there of, seems a little extreme.

I don't like using bluetooth and have the option disabled, maybe I just got a bum battery?

do you keep it in the case when your not using it. if you put it in the case it will put it to sleep and drastically save you battery life

I have found that the first 10% can go pretty quickly. The lower percentages of battery life seem to last much longer. (If so, it's the opposite of the gas indicator in your car....)

There are several threads on this forum with regards to battery life. In my experience, I never ran down the 7290 to the point where it would shutdown the radio, but it happened a few time to me with the 8700c. I purchased the extened battery and it really helped, I can't remember being lower than 30%. I've noticed that phone talk time really kills my battery life, more than I remember with the 7290.

hmmm - sounds kind of normal from what i see on my 8700. that 10 percent drop does not really seem to be 10 percent though (i.e. it takes more than 10 times that amount of usage to drain the battery).

Thanks all for the advice, I will def. get an extended battery. I also hope that it's a case where the first 10% drains quicky and the rest goes like normal.

As an update, I am trying to run down my battery and the last 10% is taking 12 hours and counting. The first 10% often goes in the first hour.

Battery Life and BBWeather
I have been getting great battery life from my 8700c. I never have bluetooth activated unless I am using it, coverage indicator light is off, etc.. - - all of the usual battery saving tips..
Then.....
I loaded BBWeather the other day and noticed my battery life was decreasing at probably 3 - 4 times faster than usual. I uninstalled BBWeather and my problem was solved!
So , If someone is getting lousy battery life and has BBWeather installed, try to unistall it and see if it improves.

i don't use mine in the holster - just put it in my pocket - it usually goes to sleep after a minute or so, if I used the holster would i get better battery life?

I notice that each time I open BBWeather it was updated from the previous time. Since I uninstalled it, the battery life is back to where it was before I installed BBWeather.
I charged it to 100% a few hours ago and it is still at 100% (it's just been sitting on the table - I have not used it). Under the same conditions with BBWeather, it would be down to at least 75%.
I am interested to see what others experience with BBWeather related to battery life. |

You can also change the polling options of bbweather. i think the default is to check the current conditions every 30 minutes and the forecast every 120. That means it's using the internet every 30 minutes on top of your regular usage. It's not just bbweather, but any automatic polling app that could contribute to battery depletion.
My experience with the battery has been that the first 10% goes in 3 hours, down to 50% in 48 hours, down to 20% in 72 hours and I've never gone all the way down to shut off. I guess I should do that to condition the battery a few times, but I don't have a problem with the battery life so far.

i noticed today my battery was at 40%.. i locked it and checked the status after sitting for about an hour and it was back up to 50%! my bb is lying to me haha

When I first got my 8700g, I was getting 3-4 days out of my battery, with pretty heavy usage (playing with my new toy). The past couple of days I have had to recharge everynight. Last night I was at 50% when I went to bed and it beeped at me around 3am. when I looked at it, the battery indicator was saying I had nothing left, so I charged it up and went back to bed. I keep bt off, unless i am driving in the car. The only thing I've done is install a prog called 'plusmo'. I wonder if that is draining me somehow???? anyone have any experience with that prog???
Anyway, my battery life isn't great lately.

It worked on my 8700g on the first try. The only thing I really liked about it was the gas prices.....other than that, I didn't need any of the other things. I just uninstalled it to see if it helps my battery life out at all. Were you getting any specific error messages, or it just wouldn't work?
