Default priv withould gold emm=no MDS and company email must be open to the web?

Please Login to Remove!

I assume, since the priv is an android phone, I need a gold emm cal if I want "blackberry" functionality.

Or, has blackberry built some magic into the priv to enable this function?

Anyone here who tested this? There is a thread in the now dysfunctional blackberry support forum, but it was not answered completely.

My understanding ist that for a PRIV to work via the BES secure tunnel you need either the Secure Workspace (SWS) app on the phone or you need Android for Work.

To achieve this you can use the following activation types (BES 12.4):

Work and personal - user privacy (Android for Work)
Work and personal - user privacy (Android for Work - Premium)
Work space only (Android for Work - Premium)
Work and personal - user privacy (Secure Work Space)
Work and personal - full control (Secure Work Space)

For the 2 SWS options you need Gold. For Android for Work, Silver would be fine (just no Secure Connect Plus).

I have not tested this, so I cannot guarantee that Silver will work.

I don't know about KNOX, it might work there as well.

This rather confirms my assumption,
No secure connect plus, no connection to the company inside network, and therefore no way to retrieve email using an internal ip of the mailserver.

If I get my hands to a priv, i will try it out myself, but i guess, that is not the case soon.

Thanks for your answer.

Secure Connect Plus is only needed when you need connections on other ports than 80 and 443 or for streaming etc. It establishes a VPN that bypasses MDS but still uses the Blackberry infrastructure.

So it should be possible to use Android for Work with the Silver license and access mail without exposing ActiveSync to the outside world.

Thanks,
Thats good to know. Even, if this is not is the same as with a blackberry handheld, it will be enough for most users.
