Default Stolen blackberry responding to PIN

Please Login to Remove!

My blackberry was stolen and I had a block put on it. I got a new phone but I PINed the old blackberry and someone responded so its obviously being used by someone else now. I contacted the police and rogers and they dont want to have anything to do with it. What should I do?

Try and get a friend with a BlackBerry to befriend the person using your stolen BB. GSM carriers either can't do much or don't want to do much. RIM could theoretically turn off the PIN so data services won't work on that BB, but it's tough to get them to do it. At a minimum you'll need a police report, an insurance claim (if you have insurance), and a lot of patience to make repeated calls to RIM.

Your friend will need a good story "accidentally" delivered to the stolen BB via PIN message to get the thief's attention. With the right story and a careful approach you might be able to coax some personal info out of the thief.

Is that the same as getting the PIN blocked? Because I think I can do that.. and you said that it will block any data services? If they have a contract now will they still not be able to do anything on the phone?

I don't have insurance and the police wouldn't even make a report about it.

Thanks

I got their first name and then they got suspicious. I have a feeling it was sold to them.

The pin is attatched to the device and Rogers can only block the sim, which is easily removed. I think only RIM can block it completely as stolen as Rambo said. I had a customer trying to figure out why their data services were not working and it was because RIM blocked the BlackBerry as stolen, she had bought it off eBay.

I would simply send them a Pin message and tell them you have the police looking for the them and you will drop the complaint if you get it back. You might try telling them you dont think he/she is the one who stole the BB but you want it back.

might work. dont give your name or address out . Have it sent to a commercial location with instructions for pickup. Then arrange for the delivery with a commercial place . UPS store etc. using a id number rather than a name. You will also need a tracking number to id the package.
