My replacement orange one is recessed exactly like the original. Still working perfectly more than a week after replacing it, so it's looking like the first batch of Tours had bad components.

how can you tell the difference between a software issue and a hardware issue? my trackball locks sometimes for a brief second or so,i think its because i am switching/opening apps quickly. i have also noticed that scrolling through email text and some web sites that the trackball is either hyper sensitive or very slow .

Actually, I've heard the problem is both software and hardware. On my Tour the problem was 100% hardware-related as a trackball replacement fixed the issue completely. A few momentary instances of a sluggish trackball would probably be just a brief device slowdown (software related) and may be addressed with a firmware update. But a persistent loss of trackball sensitivity, especially left-right movement, is what I had and can only be fixed with a new component - the trackball.

My trackball problem was with horizontal scrolling. It took quite a bit of negotiating with Sprint to send me a brand new unit instead of a refurb. I was a few weeks past the 30 days. Since I have received the phone last week it is working perfectly. The trackball seems much tighter, doesn't float around. By the way the battery door is nice and tight. My wife's phone is now having severe horizontal tracking problems and it will have to be returned. I will only accept a new phone however. We bought these phones from Sprint over the phone in July.

I don't think the problem with mine is hardware, as it has the issue when scrolling in an e-mail or on the icons on my main screen, but scrolls horizontally PERFECTLY when I'm in my browser. Don't see how it could be hardware related.
