Hy my blackberry won't connect as modem and my network provider gave me the profile but still it won't connect , it keeps saying Blackberry desktop manager failed to start an IP modem session using the connected : The specified port is not open . Please check your profile settings and make sure your radio is turned on..I need help please

No I didn't know it wouldn't connect without BIS cause I thought they are useless when connecting BB as a modem .. I just have megabyte so I'll buy the BIS and try connecting again and see

Yes, you need that in order to connect as a modem via desktop manager.

No, it cannot. Only devices with OS 7.1 can act as hotspots, and some carriers charge extra for usage.

Hey I was using Windows 8 on my laptop and then I decide to change and try connecting it on Window7 pc and it worked perfectly without having BIS so I think it had to do with some internet setting on windows8

Anything is possible.

No BIS, No data plan. Better check your next bill. Carriers love to charge. Most will find users fairly quick but eventually will if they miss you for a few months.
