Default phone call logs

Please Login to Remove!

I just discovered, that the phone logs for all of my users and the SMS logs are being pulled. Anyone know how that is being done? It is being saved as a CVS file?

I'm a little upset, only because I didn't know this was being done, and someone should have let me know, but anyway, i would just like to know how now.

Some how, a complete folder is created with the date and three logs are created.

I wonder if that data is kept in the BES's MSDE/SQL database and someone is pulling it from there...seems possible but I don't know...

Someone has set the IT policy on your BES to poll your BlackBerry devices for PIN, SMS and phone call logs. These are then stored on the BES in the csv file you mentioned.

Open BlackBerry Manager.
Select Servers, and click the Global tab.
Click Edit Properties.
Click IT Policy, and then IT Policies.
Highlight the IT Policy for the user and select Properties.
Select PIM Sync Policy Group. The relevant policies are:
Disable PIN Messages Wireless Sync
Disable SMS Messages Wireless Sync
Disable Phone Call Log Wireless Sync
To enable any of the policies, ensure they are set to False

brilliant. Who needs training when you can come here.

wonder if this is set by default. I was afraid that someone was poking around on my BES without me knowing.

I saw this too on mine. the reason is that it is by default turned off on all except for the phone. So if you don't want that logged you have to change the default, the others you can leave alone.

It's set by default. I noticed that the first time I installed 4.1 and was looking to see if any new logs were available...noticed the csv file right away and thought...uh, oh...I gotta stop dialing those 900 numbers from my BB now! ;)

Kidding, of course...

To repeat Inphektion, Phone call logs are enabled by default, but SMS and PIN logs are not. They have to be explicitely enabled in the IT policy by the BES admin.

Under 4.0 for Exchange when I open BBM and select the server I either see the server in the right window or the list of BES users, there is no Global Tab, can you possibly tell me what I am looking for?

Thanks

SMS & PIN logging is for 4.1 BES only (sounds like these are the instructions for 4.1), and are not available for 4.0, but someone else can back me up/refute that.

Don't select your server, select the root of the tree above that which should actually say "Servers".

Nope it just says "blackberry manager" above the server in the tree field nothing higher above it.

You are not running the 4.1 version of the BlackBerry Manager (this is your problem)...that's the MMC version, which does not have global tabs, etc.

Since you are running 4.0.x, you will not have the ability to enable SMS or PIN logging.

Side note: - I believe you can run the 4.1 console on a 4.0.x BES, but I'm pretty sure this is not supported by RIM.

(not that this will enable you to log SMS and PIN messages, since this is a 4.1 BES server policy)

Simple question with this topic. After I change this in the IT Policy. When I do an Enterprise Activation will it no longer try and sycn my Phone Call Logs or will it still sync the old ones?

Hi,

Can anyone tell me if "Disable Phone Call Log Wireless Sync" option is avaible for 4.0 or is this a new feature in 4.1?

Cheers!

Its 4.1 only.
And it does not affect that the Call Logs are being included in your Wireless Backup, it only affect if the placed/received Calls are being logged in a CSV file in the log folder.
For 4.0 devices runnning on a 4.1 folder you additonally have to set a REGKEY to disable this feature - changing the policy only works for 4.1 devices. Reboot may be required to activate this change.

You need to add a REG_DWORD key named "DisablePhoneCallAuditLogging" and set the value to 1 under the path:

HKLM\Software\Research In Motion\BlackBerry Enterprise Server\Logging Info\Backup Connector
