Red face OTA Problems

Please Login to Remove!

Hello,

I am encountering problems when trying to provision a custom developed application (J2ME) to a 7100G handset using OTA. Tha application runs fine on other J2ME handsets (Nokia, etc) and I believe that the OTA process itself is creating the problem.

The particular device I am trying to load the application onto is using Cingular service.

I am getting the following error message right when the Download process switches to installation:

910 - Application Authorization Failure

Does this mean that the device is locked down by either cingular or some other party or if so, is there a way to unlock the device? Or could it be something completely different?

All help is appreciated

First thing is to try and use Desktop Manager or javaloader to load the application onto the device. If that works then it is an issue with the OTA installation process (Make sure you have the correct MIME types setup).

There also may be an issue with the IT Policy not allowing 3rd party applications.

Red face

How would I find out about the IT Policy (i.e. find out if there is one)?
If there is one, how would I be able to remove it?

I am sure that we have not implemented an IT Policy within the company. Do you think it can be applied by the carrier (cingular) or if it can have anything to do with the application itself (permissions on the JAD)?

Desktop loading is not an option, unfortunately.

Thanks.

The status error code "910 - Application Authorization Failure" can occurs in 2 uses cases :
xxx8226; If the application is an unsigned version of an installed signed
version of the same application, the device MUST return Status Code
910 in the Status Report.
xxx8226; If the application is not authorized for a permission listed
in the MIDlet-Permissions attribute, the device MUST return
Status Code 910 in the Status Report.

of course if BlackBerry 7100g handset implements strictly the "OTA Provisionnig specification".
