On a more serious level, my primary take on the matter is that it is an individual moral choice, and that in such circumstances a true social conservative approach says that government should not interfere with the decisions of the individual.

My fiscal conservative approach says that the cost of a public-funded abortion is less than one month of state-sponsored child support -- much less 18 years of such support. You all willing to pony up the cash to support that unwanted bastard who in all likelihood will, unlike Tim Tebow, end up malnourished, under-educated, and a drain upon society. JSanders, using Tebow as a poster child is wonderful marketing and spin, but is not the typical case that we're looking at.

And no, I don't believe that it is a life until it is viable to live without medical intervention. At that point -- probably best defined as third trimester although with modern medicine earlier viability is possible -- then feel free to ban it for the life of the child.

As for the abortion issue, I say let the states determine what they want. Its a democracy after all. - same answer I have for the capital punishment argument, although we have more people in prison per capita than any other nation so the deterrent of it doesn't work.
OMG!!!! Test & I agree on something. The states should decide on both issues. I'm certain that down in here in Sweet Home Alabama abortion would be illegal and we'd have an express lane for capital punishment. (anyone seen Ron White talk about Texas and the death penalty??) That's FUNNY!!!

Using that philosophy it would be ok for a pro-lifer to kill an abortion dr. and the government shouldn't interfere with the decisions of that individual....right?

Oh please. There is no debate that a live birth is a living human. The same is not true of a bunch of cells--even if you believe. Ding. Next.

I don't recall djm saying that he came from an ape. In fact, I don't recall any person on these forums say they came from an ape.

Although I do believe in evolution, unless and until some other science-based model can supplant it as an explanation for the origin and development of mankind and other forms of life.

If you believe in evolution then that is exactly what you believe.

No it's not. Believing in evolution means that one believes that apes and humans (both hominids) have a common ancestor. There's a big difference.
