I bought, what I was told, was the best bluetooth heat set out there. The Blackberry 655. Man this thing SUCKS with my Curve. I cant get more than 3 feet away from my phone and it disconnects. It constantly has static and dropping calls. Sometime I have to almost touch it to the phone for it to get a clear signal for a few minutes while I use it.

Any ideas or ways to update the firmware on this booger?

Is this an issue while using UMA? or all the time?

Sounds like you have a bad one. The 665 isnt the best bluetooth out there, but it is a pretty good one. Perhapse you could check in the bluetooth forum and see if anyone else is experiencing the same issues.

I had a Jawbone for a few weeks and I was pretty disappointed with it.
I could definitely get some distance from my phone ( sometimes up to 30-40 feet ) but the call quality was not what I expected.
Outgoing, people said I sounded like I was in a tunnel. Incoming, the speaker would distort even at low volumes.

I've got one and, while I've never been a big fan of it, I never had voice quality issues with it. I just hate that it always falls apart in my shirt pocket. I'd pull it out to use it and it's in 2 or 3 peices.

i have the jawbone and love it. i have added the jabra mini gels and has made it even better. sounds good both ways. had my fiance take it one day and use it. the tunnel sound was not that bad considering all the noise i would hear with her other BT pieces. I highly recommend the Jawbone. the range is amazing and battery life is really good also. Like i said before with the mini gels it has made it the best BT device i have ever had ( and i have had a lot)

as far as your range issue. i had the jabrar jx10 and had the same issue. i bought it off ebay. when i contacted CS, after verifying some serial numbers i was told it was a fake. if you bought it from ebay i wouls call the manufacture and tell them what is going on. if it is a legit device then ask them to exchange it considering it is new.

is your wi-fi on while you're using your bluetooth headset? Remember, they both use the same frequency and thus interfere with each other. When I'm using bluetooth, I disable wi-fi and never have any issues. If wi-fi is on, it will eventually bump bluetooth off.

Yea the wifi is on while I am using it. I didnt think about that. I will try it without UMA and see what happens. That really sicks if that is the problem. Because I use my phone the most when I am in my home office. This is the main reason I have the hotspot@home feature.

Is there any way around this?

You can try differnet channels on your router and see if any work better than others. However, since wifi and bluetooth work on close to the same frequencies there are conflicts. It's just a limitation.

I've bought the BlackBerry 655 BT headset, so far I love it. Its comfortable in my ear, with the gel earpieces, which came in three sizes. I've walked at least 40 ft from my phone ( SamSung PhaseII), still connected with a little distortion. I'm very pleased with it.

Anyway, it's likely that you either received a bad unit or there's some interference. Have you tried the headset in other places? Maybe try it in someone else's house, or try it at work or in your car on the road somewhere.

Plantronics generally makes really good stuff - I've got a 640 that I've had for more than a year and a half - it works like a champ. I even had a friend sit on it once (I accidentally left it in the passenger seat and it was dark)... and the worst that happened is he damaged the ear gel (you can buy a new set of ear gels for about $3)).

Anyway, if you can't get it to work well, I would recommend exchanging it before buying a different one.

With mine I just have to keep the BB on the same side of my body as the headset - or line of site. You may also mess around with the BT headset settings like echo cancellation.

My beefs with it, including JC's remark about it falling apart in your pocket, are short battery life compared to my Samsung, and failure to pick up incoming calls occaisionally. Because of this, I hardly ever use it.

I like mine. It fits very comfortable in and around my ear (i have a small head so i use that little hook) lol. anyway, the only problem i have with it is the buttons are a little too hard. I mean, those suckers need some serious pressure for it to click. Other than that, good buy.

Agreed. The buttons do take a lot of pressure to click.

At first this really annoyed me. Then I realized that compared to my previous BT headset, I get almost no accidental key presses (like when the headset is in my pocket). That's a huge advantage for me... as accidentally calling a customer can be deeply embarrassing.

There's no universally best Bluetooth headset (or anything for that matter) out there. Fit, for one thing, is highly subjective.
