I had a palm treo 680. Switching because of TWO major reasons. Firstly, it started giving me voice dropouts. Tried getting a new palm treo. Sad story short, palm treminated all of their treo serios and now are only selling the silly prixi or whatever. Feminine looking phones with cramped keyboards.

I then tried ebay and found NOT one in the market is of the orginal USA version like what i got. All of them are selling only second hand, refurbished, OR PRIMARILY unlocked phones with not genuine palm based menus. They are all AT&T, CINGULAR and such other customised menu based phones. I figured these people are just buying them off cheap / free with a contract and then just get it unlocked and sell it off. Anyway i didnt want one of those phones.

Finally i decided to go for a BB. :(. And you know the rest. I understand any phone will need some getting used to. But the reason i was furstrated is that basic things are lacking compared NOT TO PALM but any good smartphone / phone. Like one of the most irritating things like BB advertising on their site that you can edit/view native excel, powerpoint, word files and that docs-to-go is incuded is a misleader. Docs-To-Go also does only an OTA install. I hate this concept of OTA for most, if not all of the BB softwares. When you buy something its your right to keep a copy of that software on a cd or some storage. In fact copyright law i think for most countries authorises you to duplicate a dvd or software cd and keep one copy for safe keeping AS LONG AS YOUVE LEGITMATELY BOUGHT THE ORIGINAL. Same way everytime i wipe/reset my BB i have to run behind each developer to get an OTA reinstall ?? And the worst part is that i have no internet service on my phone and to get a net service activated is expensive in my country and i have to keep it alive also by paying a hefty monthly fee ? And if i deactivate it after dowloading. Then i have to reactivate it again (hefty fee) and then id be surprised to find the developer has vanished or says hed want me to buy a new version. Irespective of the price, once i get used to a software , i need it to keep working. I cant keep using and test trialing new softwares. My job is not to keep ironing out problems. Like for example how im here on this forum and breaking my head as an incentive for buying a BB phone. Once i get it and im satisfied id like to stick with it. Its not electricty that they are continuously supplying, that these developers have to try to extract money out of us every now and then. What if you bought a dvd and the shop asked you to keep paying them regularly for as long as you use it.

With palm ive never faced such a problem. I bought all my softwares and just downloaded them and have them till date to reinstall on my palm treo. Also DTG came full fledged without fussing and asking us to come online and only download even the patch update OTA etc.

Anyway im stuck now with the situation where i need to update my DTG and it just doesnt work. The register thing on my BB says (rightly ofcourse) no internet connection. I registered online and it says "successful , now enter an email id that belongs to your BB and download the patch OTA. Back to square one. Wont they ever give a patch for DTG 2 after ive registered they can at least let me download it to my desktop right ? And guess what. Right next to that they say "DTG advises you to save these installer / updater files to your pc or on cd or HDD so that you can reinstall it when your phone crashes or whatever. What a joke ? Save what to my pc. The guys just dont want to give you a download. Theres no question of selling this off. I bought this for 300 usd approx and i cant loose 100 $ or so just for having the honor of holding this phone for one week.
