Default Synchronizing web-based calendar/contact list?

Please Login to Remove!

I am in the process of building a web-based intranet for a client that wants to be able to sync the online contacts and calendar that I am setting up with the blackberry. Basically, contact and calendar data is stored in a database, and displayed to the users via a web page. They want to be able to upload/sync the data to a blackberry.

Does anyone know if this is even possible?

Any help would be appreciated!

Yep, you can do it through Yahoo which allot of smaller orgs do as its free and you can have shared calendaring. Here's the group if you want to read up on it http://groups.yahoo.com/group/intellisync I use it myself so clients can see my calendar online.

Keep in mind that anything that can synchronize to Outlook can synchronize to the Blackberry.

I can keep a PocketPC, PalmPilot, Blackberry, and an online calendar simultaneously synchronized to the same Outlook. You're not limited to 1-to-1 ... since 1-to-many synchronization works just fine. Outlook is simply the center of the 'spoke-and-hub' synchronization hierarchy.

Thusly, PocketPC and Blackberry can easily be kept synchronized to each other on an ongoing basis simply by using Outlook as the intermediary, even though neither PIM supports direct synchronization. The instructions are no different, just sync through each PIM in the usual manner, one at a time. You may have to do a second sync pass through all the PIMs, to make sure all PIMs now have identical information.

All of the below can generally be safely sustained on an ongoing basis in a mix and match manner.

Outlook <-> Exchange Server <-> BES <-> Blackberry (wireless sync)
Outlook <-> Blackberry Desktop <-> Blackberry
Outlook <-> PocketPC Handheld
Outlook <-> Palm Handheld
Outlook <-> Online calendar (i.e. Yahoo)
etc.

All good synchronization software have conflict resolution so even if an address update for the same contact is different on all PIMs, you get conflict resolution prompts in each software allowing you to choose which one becomes the master, without accidentally overwritting conflicting separately-modified copies of the same contact.

When more powerful synchronization is needed, especially synchronization in a big company, some corporations opt for third software such as Intellisync, etc. For individuals, Outlook serves as a an adequate primary central database for all secondary PIM's.

Mark -

So what you are saying is - I should try to syncronize the data with Outlook, and have the user syncronize it to the Blackberry? I guess it makes more sense since Outlook syncronizes to pretty much everything.

Thanks for the reply!

Yep. Pretty much the easiest method!

Does the Yahoo Intellisync (Puma) interfere with the Blackberry synch? If so, is there a workaround?
