I often experience low battery indications by 7 or 8pm when I wouldn't get anything with the 9700 until 10 or 11 or not at all in most cases.
The 9780 has already suddenly shut down on me in less than 2 weeks without warning when the 9700 did it to me maybe three times in my 1.5 year ownership.
I fully charged the brand new battery that came with the phone then when I started experiencing issues switched it out for my 9700 battery to see if that solved my problem.
I have yet to find a solution to this or the other problems I am experiencing.

Most people don't know jack about these things and just want to believe battery life is better. It's not. It's the same as the 9700. I have and use both regularly (OS6). Also, remember that if you have 3rd party apps on these things...you may consume a tremendous amount of battery, because a lot of 3rd party developers have no clue what they're doing...and do stupid things like keep constant radio communication between the device and their servers...or use huge chunks of data to keep the app alive etc...
Get rid of any 3rd party app to see how your battery life really is. Then bring them back one at a time until you find the culprit. Many of these developers are total idiots, only out to make a fast buck. Lots of 3rd party apps get removed from the BB app store, because they are found to harm the user experience rather than enhance it. Many aren't worth the paper they're written on.
