Hello,

We have a 5 user license version of BES I am new to how this program works.....but I getthe impression this program polls the exchange server and then directs data out over the Blackberry.net wirless network in order to update the blicensed blackberry hand helds...


If this is essentallialty how thsi works I dont see the server itself acccumulating a bunch of criticle data ?? I am in the process of composing the hardware config specs for this BES server......I dont think I need to be including all my usual stuff ( Internal Ultrium LTo tape drive and Arcserver Backup Suite)
I will just mirror a couple 160 gig drives and have Windows and BES installed on drive C: and have that volume mirrored...... does this sounfd OK or are there detials I dont know about that would justify incuklding the Tape backup system into the server config ??

you will also need a SQL database. either use SQL express (with limitations) or SQL 2005 or higher. if you only have 5 users, SQL express on the same box will do just fine. It only gets complicated if you have hundreds of users with exchange servers all over world. Tape backup system may not needed if you can include this backup policy from another server to this BES box.

you can use MSDE locally and skip SQL.


I use it with no issues, just a 120 gig drive 2.8 P4 1 gig RAM(yes needs more RAM but it works), but I do have a remote SQL backup done everynight.
