Exclamation After enterprise activation get all 30 days worth of email on new device

Please Login to Remove!

Here is the issue, a director (of course) wants to enterprise activate a new unit but at the time of activation have 30 days (or more if possible) of mail on the device.
I have already called RIM and their official answer is 14 days or 750 items, I knew that was coming.
However have any of you ever done something like this?
Here was RIM’s “unsupported/unofficial” answer. Install the desktop manager and sync mail, contacts, ect… on to the device and then back it up. Wipe device and EA device. Then restore just the mail PIM database. They will have some orphans at that time but that can be dealt with. We have tested and that does not work the desktop software only syncs from the point of setup forward so no joy. No we could set up a POP3 account and get all the mail and do the backup restore thing.
What have any of you done to do something similar to this? Are we missing something that this can be done via desktop manager? Is there a application that will hold their mail on the device until 15 days passes and then they will have 30 days. Any applications that they could access Outlook web access and get there 30 days of mail?
Any suggestions would be helpful.

Thank you.

Desktop Manager doesn't sync email.. so there's no way this would ever work.
I have a hard time believing that RIM instructed you to even try it.

Would not work. Don't bother trying. Integrating an POP account via BIS does not get you any message pre-population at all. Pre-pop is a BES feature only.

Nothing, because it's impossible to do.

I suggest that you accept the fact that what you want to do can't be done.

1. Message pre-population for BES has a limit of 14 days / 750 messages. It cannot be changed.
2. Desktop Manager doesn't sync email at all. Useless to you.
3. BIS doesn't even pre-populate any past messages. You only get message delivery from the point of integration going forward.

You might also want to instruct the user to utilize the Remote Search feature of BES which will allow the user to search their ENTIRE mailbox for previous messages.

If you're running BES 4.1.5 or later, AND the device is running OS 4.5 or later, you could do a remote search for his messages from the device.

Also, what isn't working with DM when you try to restore the messages database?

Is it grayed out? If so, do the following:

Backup old unit.

(All done to new unit after EA activation)
Options > Advanced Options > Service book > highlight Desktop [SYNC] > press Menu Key > Select Delete.

Launch DM and connect the device.
Select Backup/Restore
Select Advanced
Restore the Messages database.

Then undelete the Desktop [SYNC] service book.

We are running 4.1.6 and the device is new or I can update the FW on the device so the remote search will work in this case. Thanks for the tip there I did not know that feature was in there.

I have not done the restore part yet due to the fact I cannot get the desired amount of mail onto the device. I had a co-worker test some of this for me and they told me the only way he could get past mail on the device outside of EA was POP3 (which got it all). I am going to test the remote search thing and see if that will be acceptable. If not I may go the POP3 route if they are insistent.

Thank you for the help.

As I mentioned earlier, this is incorrect.
You won't get ANY old mail on the device if you integrate the email address as a POP3 account.

Prepare to be disappointed.

Penguin is correct. POP3 does not pre-populate.
