Default Get pins from BES to another program

Please Login to Remove!

Anyone know if there's a simple way to automatically have all your BB PINS on the BES server pulled and sent to another program? We'd like to publish our BB pin's for our corporate use, but are not exactly sure how to pull them from the server and get them to our application.

I'm sure there is a way query it from the database and output it if you know some scripting.

What version of BES are your running?

If you do a lookup from the device, and view a user who is on the BES their current PIN information will be in their info under the phone numbers.

Running 4.0.6.7

We have a "corporate directory" that we want to spill the PINS to so other users of the directory can see them.

Well assuming your database name is BESmgmt the sql query would be

Use BESMgmt
Select displayname, PIN from userconfig

Which I suppose you could script in some way.

whilst it's fairly easy to get the data from the DB, I'm not sure why you'd want too... if peple change devices then the data you've extracted is out of sync/needs to be updated..

Plus if Mr. Black and Mr. Whilte are on the same BES evinronment and Mr. Black wants to PIN Mr. White, then all he needs to do is 'Send PIN', 'Lookup', "Mr White' and he can pin them without even knowing Mr Whites pin.

If people get into PIN messenging then the BB messenger is a great interface to that tool.

"blackberrybackup" has options that allow you to create a text file with user name and PIN info in it.

I seem to recall that "blackberrybackup -?" displays a list of supported command line parameters, and you use it to create a file and then a printable file from the previous one.

A good reasons for wanting to extract the PIN addresses of users is in case of BES failure / DR. If you loose the BES server then lookup will stop working, as will email obviously - but PIN to PIN messaging will continue - very useful in a major incident situation.

The only problem with storing PIN is the Address Book is the data gets stale because people replace their BB due to damage or they just want a new one. There is no way to update the contact information in Address Book.

You'd have to create a script to export a user to PIN map from the BESMgmt database and then use ADSI to populate your field of choice. I'd recommend "User Field 1" as that is where the PIN goes by default ... you could then create another script to copy the value in that field to an easier field for users to read.
