is the curve 8900 better than the storm? i was looking at the specs on bb website and the curve was either the same or better in every aspect.. wtf they both came out about the same time.. can anyone explain this? am i reading it wrong?

It really depends on how you look t it. Do u want a multimedia rich device with a touch screen? Or do u want a work horse qwerty device that's great for email? They are both great for what they are and do.

As Troy said, try them both and see which one you like best! I love qwerty devices but also love the Storm. I am way slower trying on the Storm than I was on a qwerty device but I love the large screen! I don't send many emails from it so I went with the Storm for the large screen and the way kewl BB in touchscreen factor...

is the storm not considered a full qwerty keyboard? i am more talking on the hardware.. is the hardware on the curve surpase the hardware on the storm? seems there is more memory on the curve.. but i am not sure if the 8900 has 3g but i am not exactly sure what 3g is...

8900 doesn't have 3g. 3g is supposed to provide a fast network access, but some people on the forums have been giving conflicting reports. And 3g also allows you to get emails while talking on the phone too.

If you have 3g coverage in your area go for either the Stom or the Bold. Helps lot in some situations where you miss call while receiving emails.
I have used both Storm and Bold and the Bold has a better keyboard but the Storm has other better features like bigger screen and better camera. The video player is also much better on the Storm.
Try the Storm first as you can Hate or Love the keyboard.

The 8300-series (8310, 8320, 8330) have been available for some time, but the "8900" (= "Javelin") and Verizon's "Niagara" version aren't due for some time.

With the way the economy is right now, I'd say a *long* time (like late 2009).

yes, its out on Rogers Wireless in Canada, as well as Vodafone in Germany. Probably elsewhere as well

I guess the 8900 is GSM only; anyone know if the VZW cdma version will be capable of using SIM cards? In other words, the 9530 with a real QWERTY keyboard?

As posted elsewhere in this forum - VZW and Sprint are supposed to get the Niagara in Q1 or Q2 of next year - this is the "Bold" for CDMA. I have no idea on the SIM card situation.

However, I am gladly learning to use the virtual kb on the Storm for the display real estate. The Bold/Niagara and the 8900 still have somewhat smallish 2.5" screens.

I want to get one of these to replace my 8300 work Blackberry on AT&T. I have no need for 3G on my work Blackberry plus I think the Bold is too big. I'd rather have the higher resolution screen (480 x 360 on the 8900 versus 480 x 320 on the Bold), the better camera (3.2 megapixels on the 8900 versus 2 megapixels on the Bold) and the smaller form factor of the 8900. If I get the 8900, then both my phones with use microUSB charges so I won't have to switch back and forth between miniUSB (8300) and microUSB (Storm).

So you use a Work Blackberry and a Personal Blackberry. Why not consolidate to one device? Your company's IT Policey's too strict?

Yes my company's IT policy is very strict. I work at an international commercial bank. They have SMS/MMS disabled. All instant messenger programs (i.e. AIM, Yahoo Messenger, Google Talk, etc) are blocked. I'm pretty sure Blackberry Messenger contacts is limited to people on the BES. I'm waiting for them to start blocking personal email (BIS) accounts as well. On top of that, they track our voice minutes. If we are using it for personal calls and we go over the minutes included in the plan, they will bill us unless we can show that the calls were all work related.

Is this true? I'm on Verizon with the 9530 and during my conf calls I don't get any emails. I was just on a 3 hour call and didn't get a single email. All the emails came flooding in right after I hung up. I was sitting at home which is a full 5 bar 1XEV single area.

CDMA based phones (like the Storm in 1XEV mode) don't have dual channels for voice and data so that's why the emails come flooding in after you get off the phone. I wish it did because it stinks that I can send/receive emails or chat while I'm on a call. I believe all GSM phones regardless of whether or not they have 3G will allow you to receive/send emails/data/etc while you're on the phone. I'm not sure if you need 3G on GSM phones to have voice and data simultaneously but maybe someone else can confirm.
