Hi. Tonight I decided to update the OS on my BB8830 due to constant connectivity problems that I have had as long as I have had the device. I have been reluctant to do it because I am not a windows user and the device can only be restored from Windows. I borrowed a laptop from work to do it.
The laptop had no Desktop Software on it so I installed 4.2.2. After the install I went straight into the Application Loader and it detected everything that need updated and I accepted it as it was. It made it half way through the process before the app indicated there was a problem, dumped what it had to a flatfile in My Documents, and just quit.
Here is where it gets weird. I went to run the Application Loader again and there was no indication anywhere that it had been installed except in Add/Remove Progs. No shortcut on the desktop and no item in the start menu. The only way I could get the App Loader to run again wa sby going through the install process again. Once I did, I tried to restore, and the software quit with a "Fatal Error".
My phone will not boot, now at all. The red light blinks twice, constantly and pressing the power button has no effect. It is as if the device has no OS on it at all. I have downloaded and installed Desktop Software 4.3 (which installs fine and leaves a shortcut on my desktop). When I launch the software and try to "Restore" it tells me it cannot because there is no BB software on the device connected to the USB Port.
I am not sure what the correct procedure is here. Any advice would be terrific. Thanks!
Thanks for the links Sith_Apprentice. I followed the instruction for JL commander, although I believe the device was wiped before I started the procedure. I had the error screen with the '507' before I started. Part of the instructions on that page call for removing the battery, and once I did that, the 507 screen was replaced with a "no battery" screen.
Then the instructions call for launching the desktop manager and installing the software. Eventually I get the error "Unable to reconnect to the device during a multi-stage load operation."
What are the next steps I should take in restoring the phone? Any other ideas?
It was after the erasing stage of the app loading process. However, I decided to try the process with the battery IN the phne instead of out as that JL Cmdr page called for. The reloading process seems to be working ... I think... If it boots back up then I guess I will just need to:
1. reactivate it wirelessly (however that is done...)
2. Restore the pictures of my dog and my memos.
The app loaded reported success but right now the hour glass is spinning and has been doing o for a while. If it is still doing that when I am done sucking down my bowl noodle I'll indicate as much here.
Good news, everything is restored except for my third party apps, and of those I only care about 5ud0ku and chess. But my browser icon is missing!! How do you get it back?
Thanks for all the help Sith. I like everything about the BB except the Sprint data network which seems as slow as molasses, and the fact that in any given spot in Seattle connectivity seems to come and go for no reason.
I have the same proble except no matter it the battery is in or not I still get the message of "Unable to reconnect to the device during a multi-stage load operation" I tried everything on these forums and nothing has worked so far.
