Thumbs up Bold 9000

Thanks JC for the excellent guide.

I follow it step by step and everything is fine except can't locate the .cod for songs, ring tones and sample pictures in OS package 4.6.0.518 Bold 9000.

Is there any posts explaining how to remove it for Bold 9000?

Default Problem With Memory Clean-up

Hi there, i tried and have succeded before with freeing up memory on my pearl using your instructions. I just recently got a new phone from verizon as a replacement for the one i had that broke. Ive been sitting here for 3 hours trying to get rid of all of these .cod's and all that crap they put on the phones. I created the Removed Modules folder and deleted all that i didnt want, including the Vendor file. The problem is im not getting the option to install the new OS i downloaded wether i use DM or Loader, and even if i go through with either of the programs its not deleting any of the .cod's that i got rid of. I have never had this problem and i have no idea whats wrong. Ive went through the instructions numerous times to make sure i didnt miss anything and i followed step by step and its just not working. Any and all help will be greatly appreciated.

Are you using Vista. Do a search in the hidden files and check for the vendor file. Also make sure you empty the recycle bin.

yes i am using vista and i did a search and found nothing, i made sure the recyle bin was always emptied. I have no idea whats going on, out of the 38 .cod's i deleted, when i run the loader it will take out 1 or 2 out of the 38 i had set up to be removed, its not removing everything, im lost.....

Strange. I have had issues in the past and unfortunately starting fresh might fix it. Remove everything from your PC, restart and try from scratch.

John,

I've not yet tried to follow your instructions on freeing up memory. I had read in another forum about freeing up memory by deleting the sample pictures folder. I tried that but I did not gain any memory. I then read in your post that starting with 4.5.0.52 and higher it doesn't do any good to remove them anyway. I am still puzzled about the whole memory issue. I have about 30 3rd party apps installed on my Storm 9530 with OS5. The most free app memory I have is about 15MB. I have read about people trying to get their app memory to stay at 40MB. I have never seen that much free memory. I would be happy to see 20MB. I know 30 is a lot of apps and it depends on the size of the apps but here is the strange thing. One of my co-workers who has the same phone and OS only has 8 3rd party apps. and his free app memory is only 17.4. He has apps like Gmail, Google maps, and a few other small apps but obviously not nearly as many as I have. I know this is a long shot but do you think being on a BES would have anything to do with memory usage? This is the only common denominator I can see between our phones.

Randy A.

The COOL thing - is asurion just sent me a totally new phone, box, charger, all those little adapters, headset, and all I was happy about that haha

Default THANKS!!--Some Apps still work though?!?!

First off...thanks for these tips, they seem to be working great thus far, ive been trying to free up some space and this REALLY REALLY helped....

HOWEVER....

I followed the directions to remove the Voice Activated Dialing (VAD) & Push2Talk (PTT) but i can STILL access them and use them, why is this? is there a step that i missed? please let me know because i removed what you said to for both of these apps.

Thanks.
