I'm planning on doing this today but had a question that doesn't seem to have been answered yet.

I'm actually quite content with my current carrier theme and really only want to remove:
1) Voice dialing
2) pre-installed backgrounds

Do I still need to modify the .alx file and delete vendor.xml? Or can I just skip to removing the .cod files for these 2 things as instructed?

Delete the vendor.xml file if you are using an OS from another carrier. We have just gotten in a habit of doing for all OS's now.

You are happy with the Verizon theme, so now, you won't need to do that. Just remove the cods from the install process.

Thanks very much. I came back to edit my original post and say that yes, I was keeping my carrier-specific OS and just wanted to remove those 2 pieces. I see that it's already been answered. Thanks very much!

How do we get rid of the sample song? I did not see it on this thread. I think another poster opened up a thread on this issue as well.

To remove the sample music files, remove the cod named:

On 81xx models: net_rim_bb_media_240x260_b.cod
On 83xx and 88xx models: net_rim_bb_medialoader_320x240_b.cod

The actual filename may vary, but it will so very close to one of the above that it will be obvious.

Yep, welcome. That .cod itself is 2.26mb in size.
