Default Water Damage to BB Curve - Verizon Edition

Please Login to Remove!

Need some advice. I aquired a BB less than 2 weeks old that went through a washer machine. The screen had significant water damage but the unit still powers on - even the screen has dried out and looks great.

Im considering adopting this phone as my own. My fear is am I taking a huge risk by doing this or is there some sort of a test I can run on it? I just don't want it to die or stop working mid stream if you know what Im saying. I can get one from verizon for like $100.00 but Free > 100 if you know what I mean. So what can I do to test?

Awesome - Thank you. On the T-6 Driver - Are those hard to find? Ive been looking for that tool. Also- What are the odds in getting water marks off. are they generally on the LCD itself or are they just under the screen?

I've never had this problem myself, so someone else may have the answers for you.

I wouldn't risk it. These devices can be quirky when you at least expect it.

i had this same problem with an 8310. just to warn you bfore i type this all out i have done this with a few curves, a pearl, a bold and some non rim phones and it has worked almost every time. but its scary...
get a t5 and t6 torx driver. remove battery cover. bettery, sim and micro sd if you have them. take the 2 t5 torx screws out of the top, pop the cover off of the bottom that has the carrier logo on it. use something slim to pop off the cover plate, then take the 4 t6 torx screws out, remove side plates, and the metal cover for the screen and screen its self. then remove mother board from the mid plate chassis thing, then the scary part, fill a bowl with rubbing alcohol and plop it in. then swish it around for like 10 minutes while your oven pre heats to 150 or 200. set it in the over on some wax paper and let it cook for about 5 minutes then flip it. keep flipping every few minutes until the alcohol has evaporated. let it cool, put it all back together, and see if it will turn on. . oh and as far as cleaning water marks off of the screen running alcohol works perfect. and the t5 and t6 tools can be found at sears. some autozones or advanced autos, and watch and small electronic stores. this method cleans all the contaminates out of the phone that was left there from the water it was in. and i am fully aware that i have opened myself up to being flamed, yelled at, and possibly threatened with bodily harm or death for this lol.

I would take the free one and insure it. If you run into problems you can always submit it to the insurance co.

The problem with the insurance is that I believe you can only insure a phone you purchase new from your carrier.
