Call your carrier and explain why you don't want the offending caller/texter to contact you. If you have a good reason, they may be willing to block the number.

you can always set up a profile for that person where it doesnt ring or notify you. Other than that its changing your number

This is something T-Mobile is working on, and I expect all the carriers, who just lost a lawsuit over this, will follow suit. The lawsuit said that it was unfair to charge you for text messages or calls that you don't want and not provide a way to opt out of those calls/texts.

For now, Dawg's suggestion of setting a profile that fails to alert you to a particular number is the easiest/most elegant/only way.

Just push the Busy button I guess, as for texts and voice mail just delete them.

Motorola phones have this feature. You can set your security to allow calls from only phone numbers listed in your phone book. I wish my BlackBerry had the same feature.

You're going to resist this, but it's the most effective and least expensive avenue, though not the fastest.

File a police report.

You're dealing with a theft of service. If you're paying for those messages and air minutes, you're also dealing with theft. If the originator is out of state and it happens more than three times, it may even fall under the RICO (racketeering influenced corrupt organization) laws. While your instance may seem like petty theft, a mesaging spammer is committing compounding any crime through volume.

You can trace the source of any phone call or text message - or if you can't, your carrier certainly can - and they are much more likely to cooperate with a police investigation than with a call from you.

And unless this bad guy is severely self-restrained, the odds are it will get sent to the FBI.

BUT...

You may have invited it.

You may have opted into getting these messages when you signed up for something "free".

If you're absolutely sure that isn't the case, file a police report.

They're open now, and if you like, they can deliver.

Just change the stalkers name in the address book to "Do not Answer"! I have several of these in my book (Yes it allows duplicate entries)! It's great you don't even know which Ex it is! :P

Considering the average Text message costs $.10 , I doubt the FBI will jump on this

Considering the average spammer is sending millions of messages, a dime each adds up.

And considering how much law enforcement, prosecutors and most government officials frigging hate spam (and are pressured by their constituents to do something about it), you may be surprised by how politically important each little victory can be.

But if you'd rather dismiss it than try it because of your theory about how they work, well, it's your time and money they're burning.

I was getting span on all 5 of my personal phones.
I called ATT and they said they would block them.
We haven't gotten span sense then.
I don't know how they did it but it seems like they solved the problem.
Call them and ask it can't hurt.

Haha, I do this as well. I've never heard of anyone else doing the same, but it sure does work. No better deterrent than having that show up on the caller ID...
