Unhappy HELP! My os won't upgrade?!

Please Login to Remove!

I just spent an hour fishing for posts on this but no luck. I've tried this on multiple pc's running xp service pack 2. I'm using the 4.6 desktop software trying to upgrade my 8330 os 4.3 to 4.5. The issue? Every time I try to update, it says my device software has the latest!? WTF?

Thoughts my fellow berry nerds?

Did you delete the vendor.xml file in the Common Files folder (I don't know the exact folder off the top of my head)? Make sure you follow the update directions exactly.

Did you follow the instructions in the upgrade thread (4 threads up: "Latest OS: 8330 4.5.0.101/4.5.0.77 (Multilanguage)"), my 8310 upgrade went really smoothly yesterday.

Yes I did delete that file and followed the directions to-a-tea. I mean I'm an I.T. guy, I'd like to think I know what I'm doing. ;)

Any other ideas peoples?

Just for grins, and because you are an IT guy, remove DM 4.6. Download and install 4.5, install the lastest handheld OS for the 8330 on top of DM 4.5, and try it.

It's not rocket science... Especially for an IT Guy.

1. Install DM on PC

2. Install han
dheld OS (for yor exact model BB) on PC.

3. Delete vendor.xml file

4. Launch DM

5. Connect BB and it will prompt to upgrade.

6. Begin upgrade and watch TV for 45 min til finished.

Did you remove the old OS off your PC if you had it on there.

craploads of people to respond to, here goes:

NJBlackBerry: Been there, done that (twice). Same results.

Penguin3107: That's the same instructions as the sticky right? Did it. It doesn't prompt for an upgrade, just says "you're running the latest" after it scans the device.

Zerog46: The order of things went like this - I was running 4.5, which didn't work. Then on the same pc I upgraded to 4.6.....again, same results. So I went to a completely different pc with a fresh *FRESH* o.s., installed 4.6 and same deal again.

ALL: I'm half tempted to just swap it out with verizon but the delema there is it's my works phone, so they might not like that shiz. But it's what I'll have to do if we all can't figure this one out.

:(

On your XP PC, totally remove everything, restart the PC. Reload DM 4.5 then follow the instructions for the OS upgrade, don't forget to remove the old OS, anything that has to do with the BB.

You're 200% positive that you installed the correct OS for your model handheld?

And you're 200% positive that you deleted the vendor.xml exactly after installing the OS and exactly before launching DM and connecting your device?

If yes to both of the above, then you already have said OS on your device, or you have a magic Blackberry that refuses to be anything other than
a 4.3 device.

When you go into Options / About on the BB, what version does it say it is running?

When you go into Desktop Manager / Help / About Desktop Manager / Device software, what versions does it say are loaded in Desktop Manager?

Ok, so I'm at home now and I have a pc that has NO blackberry software installed at all and has never had any bb sofware ever. I'll take this a step further, if one of you would be so kind (looking at you Penguin3107) as to post the links I need for downloading the same software you used for your 8330. So we can go from there. And I'll follow the formentioned directions (again).

And NJBB: my phone says - "Blackberry 8330 smartphone (CDMA) v4.3.0.127 (Platform 3.1.0.72) Cryptographic Kernal v3.8.5.11c Ect, Ect...."

Thanks homies!

There was a post where the OP had a vzw 8330 and was only able to upgrade by using the default theme. Try that if you are not using the default theme. Don't ask me what the default theme because as you can see, I'm on TMO ;)

Again, when you go into DM, Help, etc., what versions of Desktop Manager are shown to be loaded.

Sometimes it takes a reboot of the computer and the BB.

Not the version of Desktop Manager.

In Help / About / DM / Handheld

It will show you which versions of the HANDHELD OS Desktop Manager thinks you have installed.
