Default Why did it take so Long for N

Why is it every phone manufacturer including RIM take so long to come out with a phone capable of Wifi N? I hope this 9900 really has N capability.

I think it has a lot to do with power consumption. I believe N runs on a higher wattage and frequency, and as a result uses significantly more power. I also don't really think you will notice a difference in browsing and download speeds as your very much limited by the device your using.

What about the Pearl 9100 the Torch and the Curve 3G. All released last year, and with wireless n. It's not like this is new.

Yep. Never let the facts get in the way of speculation. RIM builds what the carriers want to sell.

Don't forget that N was a draft standard for a long time before the final was adopted.

Oh, the Style has wireless N too. That's four BB's that came with "N" long before now.

But then, how well was it implemented? That's a different story.

Do you really need a connection faster than 54mbps on a smart phone right now? I'm curious as to what your "need" for 802.11n is.

The only thing I can think of is wireless media syncing would go faster (if you did that sort of thing - I don't). But that's about it.

One can never have enough speed on a handheld, or any other device/PC etc...faster is ALWAYS better!
