Pearl 8130 - google maps
Does anyone know if and why my 8130 will not use GPS to locate my position although GPS is enabled on my phone?

I suspect it's just a small bug with the app not fully releasing hardware resources on exit.

I noticed the same issue with one day battery life since I installed GMM 2.0.1. I. I used to get three days with "normal" use. Wonder whats still awake or being monitored.
The program seems to do a moderate job of finding the nearest cell tower that google is aware of. This may or may not be useful if you are "lost."

This is really starting to be annoying. I hear 8130 users from everywhere reporting that their internal GPS is not working, no matter what. Mine is the same thing. The only way that it works is if I install a version of Gmaps for 8830 series, but then there is no zoom as there is no true QWERTY keyboard on the device. Clearly Google is messing something up. I have also heard that some people get the version 2.0.1 when then go to google.com/gmm and others get version 2.0.0.
I had at least one person tell me that their GPS did not work after downloading 2.0.0 but then that person re-downloaded the app from google.com/gmm couple of minutes later, and the version was 2.0.1 and the GPS worked.
(1) Does anyone even know the difference between 2.0.0 and 2.0.1?
(2) Does anyone have the proper link to *JAR* (not JAD, JAR) for Gmaps 2.0.1 for 8130 and/or 8830?

The 8830 does have a full keyboard, where have you been?
Emply your browser cache or refresh the download page. You're pulling up cached info on your browser and that's why you're getting 2.0.0. I always clear my cache and have never had this issue.
BTW, Google should make nice and just setup a PDE server for this to work with. That may be the next move they make for CDMA people. Think of the My Location design as really an aGPS setup. All that's missing is a PDE server to get your location more accurate then it already is.

He simply meant when he loaded the 8830 version on the 8130 the 8130 didn't have the Qwerty keyboard so some of the features wouldn't work. Read again.

Thanks John
@JRSCCivic98 - Also, 8130 has a real GPS, not an AGPS so I should not need (and in fact I do not need) any PDE server or any assisted thing (like tower triangulation) to get my location. Installing Gmaps for 8830 model has me nicely navigating with a GPS and my location is usually accurate to within 8 meters.
Now I just want to have an 8130 version that works nicely with my GPS because so far I was not able to get one

God how I hate being wrong when incorrect info first comes out.
Prove to me how your CDMA equipped 8130 is any different then any other Qualcomm CDMA 8130 or 8830. I bet if you turn off your radio your GPS won't work. Don't get me wrong either because I too thought the GPS in the CDMA phones were similar to the GSM phones, but it seems some of the past info is wrong. There's still some small chance that there's a standalone GPS chipset in it, but currently all CDMA BBs use a PDE for GPS. This is why some of the people (who aren't with VZW) out there that installed and uninstalled VZNav can no longer use their GPS on their phones. That app pulls out the IP for the PDE server. Try it, but I suggest you backup your CDMA config prior to doing it.
The info on PhoneScoop for both of these phones is wrong.... apperently.

Memory leak in GMM 2.0.1 on the Pearl OS 4.2?
Either Google Maps 2.0.1 or Gmail for OS 4.2 is causing a major memory leak on my Pearl. I know about the Pearl memory leak issue but I haven't ever had this issue on my handheld until right after I installed Google Maps 2.0.1 and Gmail for OS 4.2 earlier that same day. When I woke up this morning I had a java out of memory exception on my handheld. Since I used Google Maps this AM it appears my available memory is quickly dwindling and will soon be at 0.

My Google Maps cache was only 38K RAM cache and 371k Flash cache so I don't think that was the issue...I think GMAIL was the issue. As soon as I signed out of GMAIL, it freed up 7+ MB of system memory.

System Seems to Be Getting Unresponsive
I have noticed that in the last few days the service has been less than reliable. Normally when I turn on Google Maps I get a postion (not exactly where I am but within 5 miles or less) within 30 seconds. Now I am getting the "Your current location is temporarily unavailable" message more often than not. Wonder if the Google server is overloaded.
I drove to Austin from Houston and back today and noticed this was not limited to the West Houston area.
Anyone else notice this?

I just tried the "My Location" feature, and it says...
"Your current location is temporarily unavailable"
I have a 8830 with Alltel and i really would like this feature. I dont know why its not working since this has GPS on it and the cell tower location too

Wrong. It is a real GPS, and the only reason why it does not work when you shut off the network is because it uses the same antenna. Therefore, you turn it off, GPS cannot be used either. No signal, no GPS.

Not sure why carriers would even consider to bring up lawsuits.
Users can do either one
1) turn off the "My Location" feature
2) Don't install Google Maps.
