Default OWA -- Get email any faster?

Please Login to Remove!

If I use BIS using OWA...there is a pretty long delay when I receive my messages...Do you guys have that problem?

I think if it is a push mail, BIS would try to get mail for every 15 mins. i.e., if it is a pop or imap email account, BIS will fetch email for every 15 mins.

It's every 15 minutes unless there is activity. Meaning if it polls and finds nothing then it will go back and check in 15 minutes. Once it is in the process of checking if more email is coming in and their is activity it's almost instant.
Does that make any sense. Meaning it won't go idle (into the 15 minute wait) if you are constantly sending and receiving email.

Ya that does make sense...Do you think it's a better solution to use OWA over redirector?

Yes, Redirector was my last resort. I had BIS and it worked well. You can receive attachements and you don't need to have a PC running somewhere. I would try if for a week and switch back if you are unhappy.

Be sure to delete the Desktop{xxxxx] service books in Options>Advanced Options>Service Books if you are going to discontinue the Re-Director otherwise you will get a ton of the message "This message is used to carry data...."

Can, and how, you sync the Calendar events via redirector?

Penguin is correct. There is no OTA synch for calendar with BIS. You will need to continue the cable synch as you do with the re-director. There is someone piloting an OTA Calendar solution (I am part of the beta but have not had time to download and install yet). I think it's call BBerrysynch.

I never recommend redirector as I have found it to be way to flaky plus the need to keep the PC on all the time tog et mail can be a problem, especially if you are away and the power goes out or it reboots, etc.

If you need OTA why not look at a hosted BES solution? You can get mail quicker and sync contacts and calendar as well.

Personally I haven't found the 15 min delay to be a problem in the several years that I have been using the BB.

My work has BES but I don't want to inherit their IT policy on the BB.

There is also the SyncML solution from Nexthaus which will allow you to keep your Outlook and BB in sync using a third party server in the sky (I use mobical.net). There's even a Thunderbird SyncML extension as well, open source.

I agree with you. I would not want to use redirector if my BIS could be able to log in to the VPN automatically and fetch the email.

Since a user is using a redirector at work, so I might want to just try it out for fun. I do not really read and reply work email between 6pm to 9am and during weekends and holidays / vacations.

I also use Google Calendar so the Google Sync is just the right program for me using it (for now).
