We could try keeping the battery out of the BlackBerry completely. Although that maybe a stretch.

I'm thinking it could be the BB, We've tried multiple versions of the desktop manager/OS 4.5 versions, different USB ports/cables/computers, and completely wiped the BB with JL_CMDer.

What version of 4.2 are running maybe you could running a different/older version of 4.2 and then jump to 4.5, did the 8320 have a version of 4.3 we can upgrade to first?

https://www.blackberry.com/Downloads/browseSoftware.do

The link above contains another version of 4.2, which is of a later release then yours might be worth a shot to upgrade the 4.2 version so if it 4.5 in general or just any OS upgrade that doesn't work.

The Orange Romania Carrier has a newer 4.2.2 version you can try to upgrade to.

When you are looking at the app loader and it shows what applications it's updating/installing are any 3rd party apps check or just the normal BB OS 4.5 stuff?

Have you tried unchecking everything but the bare min.?
Maybe it's a corrupt database causing this issue, and what is the last step you see in the app loader before it bombs out?

the only thing that is checked is the 4.5 system software, 4.5 core application, phone, and browser,

it always messes up at teh waiting for device initialization

Do you have any AntiVirus/Firewall/AntiSpyware programs on your computer?

If so have you tried disabling them completely before/during the upgrade process.

How much file free do you have on your device after a battery pull, before the OS upgrade.

Does the battery have a full charge prior to starting to upgrade?

No antivirus like symantec/AVG/MacCaffe?

I wouldn't think the firewall will effect a device upgrade but..

I would disable everything that is currently running your computer prior to starting the upgrade and I do mean everything..

I don't know if the Desktop Manager will function in safe mode... but it might be worth a try.

Might be worth a try, I am not sure if the Desktop Manager will function in safe mode however. (The normal F8 as the computer boots)

Give it a shot.
