my 8520 curve keeps giving me problems when accessing my wifi network at home.

it claims to always be connected but it sucks. I try the ping test and always get like 1 ping return out of 4!!! is there a reason for this? or just the blackberry sucks? :(

How about telling us about your setup.

What version of the OS is on your BB.
What type of router do you have?
What type of security is on the wireless connection?

my router is a NETGEAR WNR2000

i used to have WPA/PSK (TKIP), but i recently changed it to WPA-PSK (TKIP) + WPA2-PSK (AES) and now it seems to connect at least, whereas before i couldnt connect with the WPA/PSK at all but now the ping returns 1 in 4 which isnt too bad i suppose but the internet speed is like it is using GPRS lol

thanks, no i dont have data plan yet but will do soon i think i need to ring them to add it to my plan

ps. why do all the downloads say (EastAsia) is that the location of the servers or the language? thank youuu

i heard that if i put 5.0 on my phone some features may not work or features from orange may not work? is this true?? there isnt really much information on any of this

Without a data plan, not much will work.

To second what others have said, I've also found that without a data plan it's hard to get even wi-fi working on these device. The cell providers do not make it easy( or fun) to exist without any data plan

It says that using LEAKED SOFTWARE - software which is not released by a carrier - should be done at your own risk.

It doesn't actually say anything.

Look at the top of the 8520 forum for the latest RELEASED version of the software. Follow the instructions to the letter.

I disagree.

True: Some things are harder without a data plan and some things are not possible without a data plan.

But I have been using a couple of 8320s on wifi for more than 2 years. No data plan. Wifi calling(UMA), web browsing, imap email, ssh all work well.

mattxo: I might try to change my Curve 8530 from WEP to WPA2 with AES, although I don't know yet whether that's possible.
