Default 8300 Wiped - Cannot install OS

Mayday! I need some serious expert help, please.

Was running 4.2 and wanted to upgrade to 4.5. Downloaded softare, installed. Started Desktop Manager. App loader did not prompt me to upgrade.

Started loader manually - same thing. App loader tells me: "The BB Desktop Software does not have BB Device Software for the device that you have connected to the computer".

Then I wipe the BB with CL_Cmder. That works. Start loader. Same message.
Start loader with /nojvl tag and do the "wait for red light" thing. Same issue.

So, now I have a BB8300 that is wiped and I cannot load an OS. Kinda stuck now

And yes, I did check whether I have the correct software for the correct device.

One more thing. I was given the 8300 by RIM themselves when it was released as a promotional gift. So its not a retail handset. Just in case that matters.

You need to INSTALL the OS that you downloaded to your COMPUTER. Run the EXE for the OS on your computer so that it can install.

Thanks for that response. I was very short in my OP, so that may have not been clear. But when I said "Downloaded softare, installed", that is what I meant. I installed the new OS on my PC and was expecting the DM to prompt me to do an update. Like I had done many times before (but not on this handset).

Please keep the suggestions coming

BB was given to you by RIM, what carrier are you using it with?

Find and delete vendor.xml see if that help.

And this OS if for your phone secific model 8300, not the 8310, 8320.

If you are getting this error, that means that the proper PHONE OS is not properly installed on the COMPUTER.

That's what it means.

Ok, solved. After I installed and uninstalled both the phone OS as well as the DM software several times, I installed DM and the Phone OS on a spare PC. There it worked.
