Default using Transporter

We are in the process of upgrading the bes server from 4.1 to 5.0. I would like to use the cut-over process and creating a brandnew database. I was reading the transporter manual and it state..

In a Microsoft® Exchange messaging environment, the ServerConfig.ServiceName for the BlackBerry Enterprise Server must match in both the source and the destination BlackBerry Domain.

how do I determine what the serverconfig.servicename of the bes 4.1? Would there be a conflict if I name the new server the same name?

That would be the name of the Blackberry Server (not the host name). This is only necessary if you're doing a full Bulk Mode migration.

I choose to do the Live Mode migration, so I can do small batches at a time. This way, I have time to address the occasional failure. I guess it depends on how many users you have, on which mode you choose.

Can I do Live Migration if I use the SRP on both server. Since I did the Cut over process, it was my intention to discontinued the older one after all user has been migrated.

So far.. from my understanding.. I would turn off the blackberry services on the 4.1, then turn on Blackberry administrative service on the new 5.0. Move the account live mode. Then turn on all the services in the new one. Is that the correct steps?

Unfortunately, we're going to have to get someone who has better knowledge of that method to weigh in.

Hey,

do not use same SRP on 2 servers at the same time ........ RIM normally block your SRP as i heard ...

what you can do is: using your OLD server CALS on new one like this you bypass the 20 Cal restriction and you can migrate your users... then turn off old BES server services and change SRP on new BES.

that's what i'm doing actually

How did you manage to intall BES 5.0 without entering a SRPID? It won't let me pass..

I am trying to use the bulk mode method of migrating but for some reason, when I select this option, the transporter can't see the source server.

I have over 200 users at this time.. trying to figure out a way to transfer them to a new server.

you enter your SRP ID (the trial one) but regarding your CAL: the demo give you only 20 users but if you enter your production CAL it will activate normal user CAL (not trial) like this you will be able to add more User CALL to you 200 user CAL then you can use the transporter to migrate user .. when migration is over uninstall the OLD bes on the old server then change the your SRP with your final SRP

RIM will block your SRP if you have 2 BES with same SRP but RIM won't block you if you use 2 BES with same user CAL ;)

hope i'm enough clear

regarding my migration i didn't use the BULK method
