Default Need help with Ebay 8700

Please Login to Remove!

Hi folks,

I'm hoping someone can help me out here. I currently have a Blackberry 7290 with Rogers that's on it's last legs. So I picked up an unlocked Cingular/AT&T 8700 from Ebay. The device arrived today and from what I can see it is indeed unlocked with no IT Policy in place. Here is my problem though... I can't seem to get it to find the network.... It always says 'No Service'. If I go into Mobile Network it shows as set to * None *. If I look at My Preferred Network List it shows Rogers Wireless in the #1 position, but I can't seem to get it to come online (the sim card from my 7290 has been inserted into the 8700 of course).

Does anyone have any suggestions or is this just a bum unit? Also, If and when I can get this to see the network, do I need to log into my Rogers homepage and update my device PIN and IMEI? I tried doing this once and the page came back saying 'Info provided is not valid for this provider'. So now I'm really confused.

Any help would be greatly appreciated at this point!

A little more on this... I've reflashed the unit with the latest firmware from both Rogers and AT&T with no success. The odd thing is the unit will pick up the current time and date, but always says no service. Can someone at least confirm that the 8700C will indeed work on Rogers?

On the main App menu, let's make sure that the Wireless icon is switched On.

Yes it is. The handheld will go thru 'Searching For Network' and eventually 'No Service'

It will work if it is unlocked. Is it really unlocked? Did you try a battery pull? Is the SIM card good - tried in another device to make sure?

According to the steps in the FAQ on how to tell if a device is unlocked, yes it is. My current Blackberry is a Rogers 7290 and the sim card works just fine in it so I don't believe the card is an issue. I've reflashed the unit a few times now (tried Rogers, AT&T and T-Mobile firmware) with the same result on each. At this point I'm starting to believe it's just a bad unit. Thanks for the suggestions though!
