Default BB Torch 9810 iCloud and Apple Mini

Please Login to Remove!

Just acquired an Apple iPad Mini for travelling. My BB Torch 9810 is my main comm device plus calendar and contacts. I saw that I could install iCloud on my PC and sync MS Outlook to my iPad - nice for messaging and my calendar. I synced and it worked.

Noticed that in my MS Outlook, contacts were deleted and replicated in an iCloud folder. When I went to sync my Torch, it wanted to delete all my contacts from my BB. Obviously mirroring my MS Outlook. I would like to keep MS Outlook as my main mail, contacts and calendar and my BB as my main Contact and Calendar reference. Is there a way to ensure my MS Outlook and BB will sync the information without deleting info on my BB?

Any help appreciated.... In advance, thank yoiu

You have just discovered why using cloud service is not the best thing. Especially ICloud, it wants to move all data to the "cloud" and it expects the device to go there for the data. The BB and other local storage type devices end up not having local data or access.

Apple statement from their website

"iCloud is an Apple service intended for and supported on Apple devices only"

I can call Bell Telephone for negative help. Hints like this aren't worth the bandwidth but thanks for taking the time. BB screwed the tablet they bought so forced to go Apple. Guess I'll go Apple on phone to solve issue if this is how things work.

Sometimes the answer is "NO." Deal with it. Or not, but really, what's with the attitude when you get an answer?

I guess I reacted to the "perceived tone" of the answer I received, which mirrored what I received when I called Apple, Blackberry and Bell. I can accept a suck it up or a simple no. In today's tech world we tend to use a variety of devices from various manufacturers - each has their pluses and negatives. Apple said iCloud would sync with Outlook but should warn it destroys BB sync. Those tech devices who stay within their own world tend to fail. I prefer BB phone but like iPad mini portability. I will eventually support a product that allows me flexibility in a complex world. But thanks for your input.

It would have been better to use Google Sync to sync your calendar across these three platforms.

My wife uses the Gmail calendar with her iPhone and iPad while I have stayed with outlook for the BB. Do you mean the Google sync will sync outlook with apple while BB can maintain it's own sync with Outlook?

Install Google Sync on your computer and have it sync your Google calendar with your Outlook calendar. Set your GMail address on your iPad and sync your Google calendar. Install Google Sync on your BlackBerry and have it sync with your Google calendar.

Google Sync is no longer supported on BlackBerry. One has to use BIS or a BB10 device.

If you have the software, it should still work, but it cannot be installed on new devices. It's the same thing Google did with EAS. It still works on devices that set up EAS before January 1, but anything after that cannot use EAS.
