Default What I should know about transfering?

I currently have the Pearl 8100. Today I just purchased the BB Curve 8900 and become a new customer of AT&T. My question is, how do I import all my data from the Pearl to the Curve 8900 once I have the device working?

use the device switch wizard in desktop manager
or backup old device and restore that backup to new device.

I did back it up the Pearl device. So once I have the 8900, all I do is restore the backup to the 8900 and all my data and phone number should be there, correct?

Okay, is there a way to pick and choose which data to restore to my new BB curve 8900? I'm using the BB Desktop Manager v4.7.0.37 and I don't see a way to pick and choose which to restore to my 8900 device.

Second question:
Does the Curve 8900 has the capability to insert a 2GB memory card like what I have in the Pearl 8100?

Third question:
How do I use Wi-Fi? I already configured wi-fi and it's connected but when I tried to use the Browser, I kept getting this message:

You are not currently in a area that can handle data communication. As a result, the Browser cannot retrieve any web pages. I know that perhaps my it has something to do with the message ""SIM Not Provisioned:2" on my screen; however, I still think that Wi-fi should still work since it's going through my DSL connection. Help is appreciated.

Fourth question:
What is ""SIM Not Provisioned:2" mean?

Many thanks for those how try to help.

I have tried to transfer data from one phone to another and also using my notebook...
The best way to do this is have the store do it for you.....

Thanks for the response. However, I think someone in here would know...but I guess I was wrong. It's been a couple of days and no one seems to know if:

1. How to restore selected data from Pearl 8100? I know I have done restoring selected data back to my Pearl 8100 but just doesn't seem to be the choice when restoring to 8900.
2. BB Curve 8900 has the capability to insert more memory to it.
3. Why my wi-fi does not work? It seems that my cell phone is not activated yet but wi-fi should work.

If anyone have any idea, that would be great. If not, I'll find other forum.

I am pretty sure this is covered somewhere within this forum. I was able to transfer my 8320 address book onto my new 8900 without any problem (don't recall the exact procedure, but I believe I had to select the specific backup I wanted to restore the address book from). You should be able to do the same with your 8100.

Okay, I figured it out. I have to go to the Advance and choose my the backup file from the File menu.

Okay, so one down two more to go. I am able to browse the Internet now that my cell phone just been activated but, how do I know if it is through AT&T or my Wi-Fi? I would think that it automatically choose the faster speed but, how do I verify that?

My fourth question:
How do mark a read email message "Read" so that it won't show the email icon on the default screen?

Fifth question:
Is BlackBerry Map free? I've read that the Curve 8900 does have a built-in GPS, if this is true, how does it work with BB map?

If you see at the top of the browser a black bar and signal with either 3G/EDGE or wi-fi; that will tell you. If you dont see it, while in browser press U, and it will toggle the bar.
If its says wi-fi, your browsing on wi-fi, if it says 3G or EDGE you're on the network.

Highlight the date bar in messages, then menu - mark as opened.

BB maps will use your data to download them. GPS is merely a locator and will find your position on BB maps.

as for: 2. BB Curve 8900 has the capability to insert more memory to it.
For app memory or device memory? No, no phone is capable of that.
A memory/media card...yes.

Many thanks for the help.

It shows both Edge with the bar and Wi-Fi underneath it. So I'm not sure which it is using when I'm browsing.

I did try to highlight the date and press menu but I do not see the "Mark Opened" as an option available.

Okay, it looks like BB Map is installed but I couldn't find the application. How do I find it? I looked at the Application folder but it's not there.

No, I'm just using the memory for storing media files such MP3 or storage basically. Is there a tutorial on how to insert this memory in? In addition, what's the max memory card the Curve 8900 can take and what memory type?

Thanks!

open the browser
what do you see at the top?

highlight date bar. menu - MARK PRIOR OPENED is the option. above DELETE PRIOR option.

Try menu - show all on the app screen. it looks like a compass.
then try options - theme. change themes.
and try to locate it.

Its possibly 32GB max like the bold, not entirely sure.
http://docs.blackberry.com/en/smartp...en_Generic.pdf
page 33 and 34 show how to insert a media card.

Okay, here's what I see when I press the Menu button when highlighting the date.

Help

Swtich Application Close

I did try to Show All but BB Map is not found. I found AT&T Navigator but that's not it.

And yes, thanks for the PDF link. I will try that tonight. However, I like to what type of memory it uses.

One more thing, how do I find out what the MAC address so I setup the Wi-Fi?

Are you highlighting the date within a message?
Enter the MESSAGES icon. scroll to the bar that has the date.
press menu - mark prior opened.

You are on at&T, i was looking at your profile which states t-mobile.
At&T HIDE bb maps so you must use their software (att navigator) and pay for monthly for it.
Try downloading google maps. does the same as bb maps, but wont be blocked.

Its Micro-SD card.

Go to options - status.
WLAN MAC:

Yes. I did highlight the Date line and I do not see that option available.

I was able to find the MAC address but not through the WLAN. It's through the Wi-Fi connection setting.

Yes, I was on T-mobile and I do see BB Map on my Pearl 8100 but I switched over to AT&T with Curve 8900. So that really sucks if AT&T blocks that app. Okay, so how do I download Google Map to use on my 8900 and will it automatically uses the built-in GPS?

You see, the options you stated only show when viewing an actual message.
Not when highlighting the date bar within the main messages window.
(see attachment)

fair enough. going to options and status shows WLAN MAC: and then the MAC address
easiest way to view.

You download google maps by going to google.com/gmm on your BB browser and downloading.
and yes it will use GPS to find you on the map.

Okay, I want to make sure I understand this correctly. If an email has been read or marked as opened, should there still be a email icon with the red bubble showing on the home screen? And yes, I did finally found the option your referring to. However, I believed that is if I want to marked every email came in during that date, correct? If so, how do I mark individual email as read/opened?

I finally got my wi-fi to work now. Thanks!

Okay, I figured out about the unread email icon on the home screen. I didn't realize the SMS and MMS are also showing up on the home screen. I got it now.
