Default Will older apps run under OS 7?

Please Login to Remove!

I'm considering upgrading from BB 8830 (os 4.5) to 9370 (os 7.0). I have alx/cod installation files for all third party apps installed on BB 8830. Are the apps designed for os 4.5 going to work under os 7.0, or do you need to check each app's website to make sure os 7 compatible version is available? In the latter case, I wouldn't upgrade unless all my apps were available for os 7.

Typically apps are device and OS specific. Contact the developer for each to see if they have a version for your new OS 7 device. Or look in App World and see if they are there.

It depends. Alot do. Some don't.

I can't get Amazon app on my 9900 via the app world but I can get it if I migrate from my 9700 to my 9900.

Unfortunately the new os 7.0 doesn't allow you to change your Agent version like you could in 4/5. So you can't "mimic" something easily.

I would say overall a fair amount do.

However I am not aware if this is due to the migration or not. I want to say the cod/alx may have more "stringent" checks before an install occurs but I am not 100% sure on that one.

Hi. I'm a new app developer, and so, in my experience with developing my first app, I do know that the .cod files are built for a specific OS version. I had to release 3 separate versions (.cod files) for each of OS 5, 6, and 7. So I would say that most apps are not compatible. But you should be able to get a OS 7 version if it is available for the particular app.

My new app is called TrackNSlim and is available on App World... check it out if you have time.

Hope this helps.

Regards,

Scott
