Take the track ball out of the device (do a search on youtube for your device...lots of good how to vids about removing trackball) and clean it with rubbing alcohol or something non conductive, let it dry put it back together.

I discovered on day simply because I had nothing else available that ordinary white spirit that you clean paint brushes with cleans my trackball quite well.

I just pour some into the bottle lid and drop the trackball in and leave it to soak for a few minutes.I then dry it off with a dry cotton bud and put it back in.My current trackball has been cleaned a few times with this method and is still going strong and I suppose that any mild solvent that won't attack the plastic might do the job.
