Default Gmail on app vs on Bb email client

Please Login to Remove!

I put my gmail account on the Bb email client (please correct my tech language).
I make full use of gmail features such as filters and labels. Of course these features are not supported in Bb email so my gmail does not function well (overcrowded inbox, cant manage labels etc).
So I downloaded the gmail app and am now using gmail on that and it is nearly like using it on my home pc.

Are there any known issues in having gmail on the bb email and the app on the same phone? Im a bit clueless here.

No problem having them on the same phone. I use the Gmail app too. If you're using the Gmail app, there's really no need to keep Gmail configured in BIS.

Thanks- if I may pursue further-- I cant seem to attach photos to the Gmail app, but I guess I can email a photo (from BB camera) on the BB Gmail email. Any advantages of keeping Gmail in both formats?

You're correct--the BB mail client will let you mail attachments. It will also let you do things like play media files received as attachments. I keep my carrier's BB address active just for those reasons--in my case it's [email address]. I don't keep Gmail active in BIS because I don't want the duplicate messages in both the Gmail app and the BB mail app.

How exactly do you inactivate your gmail account in BIS?

I'm having this same problem- receiving gmail emails in both gmail app and BB email (including unfiltered emails in BB email). But I don't see an option to inactivate my gmail account in the BIS or in the BB email app.

What I tried was deleting gmail from my BIS, but then I can't access from the gmail app either. It seems that the BIS setup is necessary for the gmail app, but I can't figure out how to turn off delivery to my BB email app.

I want emails to be delivered ONLY to the gmail app, so that I can continue to use my many many gmail filters.

I wouldnt delete your GMAIL from the BIS.
I use both the Gmail app and the native Blackberry Gmail acount.
I use the Blackberry to send and read my messages (they are pushed when received so they are instant).
I use the app to search old messages that I have deleted from my handheld. The app is way to basic to use effectively for me.

I tested my gmail app last night and it took 3 minutes to receive an email on the app, versus instant push via the blackberry email client.

For me, the important thing is data usage (I only have 50 MB per month). I susprect that the BB client uses less data per email, however, more emails are sent this way because my gmail filters are only work with the gmail app.

I'm doing a rough benchmark over the course of this week.. so far it seems that neither option uses very much data, so it may not matter.

At this point, I'm not even sure that my provider, page plus, recognizes BIS push emails as data. I've read elsewhere that this can be the case. (verification underway.. unfortunately PP doesn't update their usage information very oftenee

There's another solution if you want to be able to send via gmail via Messages -- set the default filter in BIS for your gmail account to not forward email.

For those that aren't familiar with it and to further confuse things:

This is exactly the way I use GMail on my BB.

I find it is the best balance between the two. If I wanted to use the GMail app all the time, I could just use any ol' phone Sprint offers.

This is how I use mine also.
